D.1. General Information about Program

Postgraduate programs of Hacettepe University Department of Mining Engineering started in 1978. Doctor of Philosophy program is carried out in both mining and mineral processing divisions of mining engineering. There are several courses taking part in the program as explained in proficiency conditions and rules section. Several options of courses covering wide range of topics as grinding, flotation, extractive metallurgy, marble technology, simulation in mining, rock mechanics, filling technology,  rock breakage by blasting are offered from a list of elective courses. By taking into consideration of the thesis topic, students make their selections according to their supervisers? suggestions. The topic of the thesis can be determined depending on a solution offer for a problem in industry or technological improvements, trends and innovative approaches.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

Admission of university graduates to doctorate program is primarily through an interview. The number of the students and required qualifications are announced prior to the beginning of each semester. Admission requirements and deadline, venue and date of interview are also addressed in this announcement. Candidates must have a certified bachelor's diploma, satisfy ALES (organized by The Student Selection and Placement Center) or an equivalent test score with minimum requirements determined by Senate, satisfy the required minimum score specified by Senate for University Language Examination (├ťDS) or for an equivalent test such as KPDS, TOEFL (Test of English As A Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing System). Registration procedures are conducted and organized by institute of science.

Interviews of candidates are achieved by a jury. Final grade for student qualification is calculated in accordance with HU Postgraduate Education and Exam Regulations by considering ALES or equivalent test score, undergraduate academic grade average and interview score. Ranking of successful candidates are done based on the final grade by interview jury.

The list of the candidates which are eligible for Doctor of Philosophy program registration are finalized by decision of the institute board. Results are announced by the institute. Enrollment of students are done on the dates specified in academic calendar determined by Senate. Successful candidates can register by submitting the requested documents by institute in a specified time period.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Successful students who spend one year in postgraduate programs of university or in postgraduate program of another higher education institute can apply for a transfer to doctor of philosopy programs on bachelor of science in HU Mining Engineering. In order to apply for the program there should be sufficient transfer quota. Students who fulfill the specific admission requirements should have succeeded in previous courses as stated in HU Postgraduate Education and Examination Regulations.

The students who is enrolled to a gradute program of a higher education institute or currently a graduate of these programs and the ones who is willing to improve their knowledge and skills in this area, can join the courses as special student. These students must comply with the conditions of courses and fulfill all requirements as full time students.
