D.1. General Information about Program

Within the framework of the proposed Doctorate Program; Physical activity and sedentary behavior patterns, school physical education, intra/extramural sports activities are included in the scope of physical education and sport. Because movement, which is an important sign of being alive, has been defined under interrelated but different titles including physical education, sports and physical activity as a cultural phenomenon in the historical process. Additionally, over time, these activities have become the primary means of healthy development, health maintenance and holistic education of human beings. In this context, this program has been established in order to meet the need to train doctors of science who can plan, execute studies, write reports and articles at an academically advanced level, produce research problems in new areas of study in their specialization, and appreciate the ethics and philosophy of science. Graduates who complete the program can conduct an original research in the field of physical education and sports independently, comment on scientific research and development activities from a broad and deep perspective, and gain the ability and skills to determine the necessary steps to achieve original results. Graduates of Physical Education and Sport graduate program are awarded with the title of ?Doctor of Science?.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

  • Having any master degree with thesis in the field of Sport Sciences or Graduating from Faculty of Medicine. 
  • To be accepted by Academic Board of Physical Education and Sports for applications graduated from except these masters programs.
  • To have at least the minimum Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES-SCIE/EW/VERB) or foreign language scores approved by Graduate School of Health Sciences Board and Hacettepe University Senate. (ALES-Foreign Language Scores Table). 
  • Meeting the application requirements of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exam Regulations and Graduate School of Health Sciences.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Completing a total of 240 ECTS credits successfully, with at least seven courses, one seminar course, thesis proposal and a thesis study, provided that they consist not less than 21 national credits and 90 ECTS credits, except for the preparatory courses for Proficiency Exam for students who were admitted with a postgraduate degree with thesis. Meeting the requirements of Hacettepe University Postgraduate Education and Exam Regulations on the Doctoral Program. 

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

After the evaluation of the contents of a course taken from another institute and whose equivalence is required by Hacettepe University, the student may be exempted from the course upon approval of the Graduate School of Health Sciences. Postgraduate courses taken by a student from the domestic/international higher education institutions in the last five years prior to enrollment in the program, including graduate courses taken as a special student, are transferred to the student's program and entered in the diploma attachment (transcript), within the framework of the principles defined in Hacettepe University Postgraduate Education and Exam Regulations, upon the recommendation of the department and the decision of the Board of Graduate School of Health Sciences. Candidates who have a bachelor's degree in disciplines other than Physical Education and Sport may be required to complete scientific studies in this field.

To train knowledgeable, intellectual, efficient and competent doctors of science who have the qualities of a scientist at the universal level in topics of education, research and application in the field of Physical Education and Sport, who can plan and conduct an original research independently, present the new information they have obtained for the benefit of science and humanity, appreciate the philosophy and ethics of science, contribute to the national and international policies in their fields.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of the program are science doctors who can carry out and develop post-doctoral studies in the Physical Education and Sport Departments of universities, in related research centers or independently. Doctoral program graduates are individuals who have achieved the necessary competence in independently planning, conducting and concluding research, informing, directing the society, contributing to the policies produced at the national and international level, transferring their academic knowledge and skills to the national and international scientific environments.

Physical Education and Sport Doctoral Program consists of 21 national credits and 240 ECTS credits covering at least 7 courses including compulsory and elective courses and the thesis study.  A part or all of the elective courses can be optionally taken from within and/or outside the field.
