D.1. General Information about Program

The students who complete totally 24 credit hours by taking compulsory and elective courses offered by the program and by doing practice, and also prepare master's thesis under the supervision of a supervisor and are successful at the thesis oral exam, are eligible to get master of social work diploma.

The courses students take are determined in consultation with their supervisor. The program duration is of two years, one year for theory and the second for their thesis.

Having studied for bachelor's degree at any department of social work or other related disciplines (psychology, sociology or philosophy etc.) can apply to the master of social work program.

The candidates of other related disciplines may be asked to take two-to-twelve credit hours of professional courses additionally from the scientific preparation program.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. Applicants who apply to the program must have completed a four-year Bachelor's Degree with an average of at least 2.50 over 4.00 (four).

2. Applicants are required to score at least 60 standard points from equal weight categories of the Academic Staff and Graduate Education Examination (Akademik Personel ve Lisansüstü Eğitimine Giriş Sınavı, ALES) organized by Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (Ölçme, Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi, ÖSYM). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score, determined by the Hacettepe University Senate, in the internationally recognized GRE and GMAT examinations.

3. Applicants are required to score at least 60 in the Foreign Knowledge in Foreign Language Placement Examination (Yabancı Dil Seviye Tespit Sınavı, YDS). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score from other foreign language examinations, held at the national or international level, whose equivalence is approved by ÖSYM.

4. International students' applications are accepted in line within “Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).

5. Graduate students with an undergraduate degree other than social work are given scientific preparation courses by the decision of the jury.

6. Those conditions, which are not included, are applied in accordance with the related provisions of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education, Instruction and Examination Regulations (Hacettepe Üniversitesi Lisansüst Eğitim, Öğretim ve Sınav Yönetmeliği).

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

1. Students obtain masters degree by taking 24 compulsory credits (16 domestic - 104 ECTS credits) and elective (8 domestic - 16 ECTS credits), completing theoretical courses and trainings and successfully carrying out a master's thesis under an academic supervisor.

2. In this two year program, first year is dedicated to the theoretical courses and second year to thesis.

3. Students who do not have a social work bachelor's degree can be asked to take 2-12 additional courses as part of preparatory class.

4. Along with Social Work graduates, graduates from related fields (psychology, Sociology and Philosophy etc.) can also apply to the Social Work Master's Program.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The objective of the master's program is to train social workers for a range of leadership and advanced practice roles on one of the fields of family welfare, child and youth welfare or health settings of social work. While students will be prepared to practice at specific intervention levels, and with specialized skills, all will be thoroughly grounded in knowledge of psychosocial development, social welfare policies, and social work organizations.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The student takes 16 national credits (44 ECTS) of compulsory courses and 12 national credits (16 ECTS) of elective courses.

In this case; in the first semester the student takes 8 national credits of three compulsory courses (22 ECTS) with 6 national credits of (8 ECTS) elective courses and in the second semester the student takes 8 national credits of three compulsory courses (22 ECTS) with 6 national credits of (8 ECTS) elective courses.

In order to take SHO 600 Special Courses, the student must have taken 24 national credits (60 ECTS) of courses.

The percentage of compulsory courses (minimum) 44ECTS (73%)

The percentage of elective courses (minimum) 16 ECTS (27%)
