D.1. General Information about Program

The PhD. program in Mathematics has started together with the foundation of department of Mathematics. The media of education is in Turkish. The thesis language is also Turkish, however the thesis can be written in another language with the permission of administrative board of graduate institute of natural sciences.

PhD. Degree studies are carried out in the following branches of mathematics:

• Algebra and Number Theory
• Theory of Functions and Functional Analysis
• Geometry
• Fundamentals of Mathematics and Mathematical Logic
• Topology
• Applied Mathematics

We have a classroom reserved for graduate courses in our department. Students can use the computer labs in our department. They can also benefit from social and cultural activities carried out in the campuses of Hacettepe University.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

The candidates who wish to apply for our PhD. Programme should satisfy the requirements adopted by the senate and anounced by the graduate institute of natural sciences,  see  Regulations concerning graduate education degree and exams in Hacettepe University.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The PhD. Program in Mathematics consists of courses no less than 24 credits(90 ECTS), preparation for qualifying exams(30 ECTS) and a thesis study(120 ECTS). The student has to complete 240 ECTS of workload for a PhD. Degree.  

The student who has been successful in the courses of the program and who has made 3.00 CPGA out of 4, can take the PhD. Qualifying exams, see  Regulations concerning graduate education degree and exams in Hacettepe University.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The PhD. Program in Mathematics aims to elevate individuals who has acquired the necessary background in their fields, can do independent research, can think analytically and formulate abstractly, can process scientific data and phenomena from a wide and deep point of view, can produce qualified knowledge at a universal level and can apply these knowledge to actual problems.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Our graduates have the opportunity to work in a wide range of employment sectors; academics, informatics(software engineering, computer technician, etc.), finance and banking, service industry are several of those employment sectors. State employment is also possible.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The PhD. Program in Mathematics lasts for 8 semesters. The program consists of courses no less than 24 credits (90 ECTS), preparation for the qualifying exams (30 ECTS) and a thesis study (120 ECTS). The workload is 240 ECTS in total. Seminar course is compulsory, all the rest of the courses are elective. The  %93.3 of the courses in the program are in elective status. 

The other universities from which our PhD. Students can take courses are determined by our departmental academic board. The courses from other universities which the student wishes to take, are analysed in terms of credit, accordance to the curriculum,etc. upon student?s request and is added to student?s transcript by means of the departments proposal which is accepted by the administrative board of the faculty.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The evaluation and grading of each course is regulated by its own ?course syllabus? that is included in the information package concerning evaluation and grading system. Evaluation of exams and letter grades are done according to ?Regulations concerning graduate education degree and exams in Hacettepe University?.
