D.1. General Information about Program


The Human Rights Department was established in the year 1999. The department is conducting two programmes –one with without a thesis of M.A. the other Ph.D programme.The purpose of the programmes is to contribute to the education of individuals who know what human rights are and what each human right demands, and who are able to find out in various situations what should be done for the protection of human rights.

D.4. Provisions for Registration


1. Candidates must have a M.A. Thesis which concerns human rights or must graduated from a M.A. program in human rights.

2.┬áCandidates must have minimum 60 standard score in one of the verbal or equally-weighted scores from Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) which has been done by Evaluation, Selection and Placement Centre (├ľSYM) or international exams such as GRE and GMAT whose equivalence are approved by the Hacettepe University Senate.

3. Candidates must have 70 in Foreign Language Exam (YDS, Y├ľKD─░L) which is arranged by ├ľSYM or they must gain equivalent score from another language exam which has equivalence to YDS determined by ├ľSYM.

4. If it is required candidates are supposed to take Scientific Preparation courses which are determined by Department.

5. International students' applications are accepted in line within ?Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).

Candidates who meet the above application requirements are taken to the program entrance exam. Candidates who get the minimum score determined by the department in the written and/or interview examination are considered successful. The ranking of successful candidates is made by the overall success grade.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations


In order to graduate from the department, students have to take the must and elective courses and with total amount of 240 ECTS.

In order to graduate from the programme, Hacettepe University's Regulations on Graduate Education and Examination are must be applied. (In Turkish only)

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning


The recognition of the courses which belong to students' prior learning is organized through Hacettepe University graduate education regulations. (In Turkish only).

Exchange students must take into account that their courses are recognized only if there is a similar course in their home university and providing that the instructor and the head of the department approve the recognition.

D.7. Goals and Objectives


The aim of this Ph. D. programme in human rights is to train researchers able to amke theoretical and applied research needed on issues of human rights.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples


Our graduates find position in university departments of philosophy, in private and public educational institutions, in related units of various ministries, in media including TRT, and in the units of education, culture, human relations, planning and assessment of various private and public corporations.

D.14. Profile of the Programme


Programme consists of lectures and Ph.D. Thesis in total 240 ECTS*. It is mostly an academic programme, the first three semester students must have take the must and compulsory courses, which are consist of 90 ECTS. After getting success on these courses, students take the Preparation to Doctoral Proficiency which is 30 ECTS. Students which are succeed in proficiency exam, prepares the Ph.D. Thesis with their advisors for two years (120 ECTS). After defending the Ph.D. Thesis successfully, the students have the Ph.D. degree in Philosophy.

* 1 ECTS corresponds to 30 workload.

D.16. Graduation Requirements


In order to graduate from the department, students have to take the must and elective courses with total amount of 120 ECTS, must write a Ph.D. Thesis (120 ECTS) and defend it.
