D.1. General Information about Program

Early Childhood Education Program was established in the 1997-98 academic year as a part of Turkish Higher Education Council's teacher education restructuring efforts. Our program aims to train high quality early childhood teachers through its undergraduate program as well as offers master's and doctorate degrees for those who would like to further their education in the field.   p {font-family: fantasy, cursive, Serif;}

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students who attend the program must complete 120 ECTS credits in order to graduate. 1 ECTS credit is equal to 30 hours of work load throughout the program.

Students also must complete and successfully defend a master's thesis under the supervision of their academic advisors.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Back

In Turkish higher education institutions, rules and regulations for the recognition of prior formal education is governed by the Council of Higher Education's related by-laws. Limited transfer of credits may be made and a student can transfer to another program if the required conditions are met within the defined rules and regulations. Recognition of non-formal and informal education is at a very early stage and most likely will not be recognized by the Council of Higher Education.

The two primary aims of Early Childhood Education Program are:

  1. To train early childhood educators who : can utilize the latest developments in the field; believe democratic values; are a defender of human/children rights;  value personal differences; think critically and flexibly; can express her/himself freely; are creative,  intuitive and self-reflecting; believe in life-long learning; open to international, inter-discipliner collaboration; can effectively utilize information technologies;   respectful to the social and ecological environment she/he is living in.
  2. To offer graduate programs in order to assist researchers and non-academic specialists to improve their professional knowledge and skills.

Early Childhood Education Program is a program following the national curriculum which was established according to Turkish Council of Higher Education's Turkish Higher Education Competencies Framework. Moreover, based on their academic and professional interests, students can choose between numerous electives from both the Elementary Education Department and other departments within the university.

In order to ensure graduation requirements, students are required to take at least 14 ECTS credits of elective courses proposed by the department with ECE code.
