D.1. General Information about Program

Department of Economics provides a high quality, Turkish language based master program. The Master's Program in Economics is designed to meet the needs of newly graduated and/or already employed persons for a theoretical background as well as analytical methods in the solution of economic problems. The participating academic staff and course contents are chosen specifically to provide the necessary tools and expertise to the students, preparing them with strong background for the highly competitive international academic and business environments. Students are expected to complete the program in two years. After completing the course requirements in the first year, students will be assigned to advisors that will direct them to proceed with their research. The courses are during the day-time. Attendance to courses are mandotary. The student who is not attended more than 20 % of any course cannot enter final exam.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. To have a degree from an undergraduate program (4 year program).

2. To have a minimum of 2,5 GPA over full point of 4,00.

3. Applicants are required to score at least 70 standard points from equally weight categories of the Academic Staff and Graduate Education Examination (Akademik Personel ve Lisansüstü Eğitimine Giriş Sınavı, ALES) organized by Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (Ölçme, Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi, ÖSYM). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score, determined by the Hacettepe University Senate, in the internationally recognized GRE and GMAT examinations.

4. Applicants are required to score at least 65 in the Foreign Knowledge in Foreign Language Placement Examination (Yabancı Dil Seviye Tespit Sınavı, YDS). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score from other foreign language examinations, held at the national or international level, whose equivalence is approved by ÖSYM.

5. International students' applications are accepted in line within “Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).

6. The students who are admitted to the program might be required to take relevant course/s from the Scientific Preparation Programme, in case deemed to be a necessary by the jury of the oral exam.

7. Those conditions, which are not included, are applied in accordance with the related provisions of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education, Instruction and Examination Regulations (Hacettepe Üniversitesi Lisansüst Eğitim, Öğretim ve Sınav Yönetmeliği).

This master program are required

(1) to take a minimum of 9 courses (5 compulsory + 4 elective) with a minimum of 27 local credits

(2) to pass the course of Seminar,

(3) to prepare and defend a master thesis.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

At Hacettepe University, full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related bylaws.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The main objective of the Economics master program is to raise experts in economics. Our graduates who have the skills to follow global developments and offer global or regional solutions to problems they encounter will be candidates for top level management positions in the coming years as well as for graduate study in economics.

Graduates will have a strong command in their specialization area of Economics and will be able to work either in private sectors or continue their researches as academics.

The assesment methods for the courses are described in the part of “Assesment Methods” given in the course description pages. The grades are followed by Hacettepe University MA with Thesis Program regulations.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from this program, the students are required to

- to take a minimum of 9 courses with a minimum of 27 local credits (120 ECTS)

- to have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.75/4.00.

- to pass Seminar,

- to prepare and defend a Master Thesis.
