D.1. General Information about Program


Doctoral Programme in Sport Sciences and Technology provides specialization in the following areas:  Exercise Biochemistry, Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity, Physical Education, Sports Biomechanics, Sports Nutrition and Metabolism, Sports Pedagogy, Sport Psychology, Sports Sociology and Training Science. In this respect Sports Sciences and Technology PhD program is designed to help students to better understand the scientific basis of human performance in general movement and competitive sports, and the influence of exercise, movement and sport on health and behavioural related issues. The objective of the programme is to enable graduate students to specialise in one of the fields of training science, physical education, exercise biochemistry, exercise physiology, physical activity, nutrition and metabolism in sport, sport biomechanics, sport pedagogy, sport psychology, sport sociology. The language of the programme is Turkish. 

The programme, which was established in 1991 and has been active since the 1992-1993 Fall semester, has stopped admitting students as of the 2021-2022 Fall semester, with the opening of 3 new Doctoral Programmes specific to different research areas of sports science.

D.4. Provisions for Registration


Students interested in Doctoral Studies in Sport Science and Technology Programme should meet the admission requirements of Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences and should be successful in the enterance exam.

To have ALES (SAY / EA / S√ĖZEL) score type and ALES and Foreign Language base score determined by the Institute of Health Sciences and approved by the Hacettepe University Senate

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations


Programme Requirements: The students studying in this program are required:

  • To take a minimum of 7 courses with a seminar if candidate does not take a seminar before and complete a Doctoral Thesis.
  • To succeed in all the courses with a letter grade of at least B2.
  • To have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 3.00/4.00 with a minimum of 240 ECTS credits.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning


If the content of course previously taken in another institution which is equivalent to the course offered at Hacettepe University, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the Institute of Health Sciences after the evaluation of the course content. Those who have BS in fields other than Sport and Movement Sciences may take a complimentary course.

The objective of the program is to educate qualified researchers and scientists in the field of Sports and Movement Sciences.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples


Those who successfuly complete PhD Programme specializing in either Exercise Biochemistry, Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity, Physical Education, Sports Biomechanics, Sports Nutrition and Metabolism, Sports Pedagogy, Sport Psychology, Sports Sociology or Training Science is rewarded PhD Degree in Sport Sciences and Technology.

Graduates may either continue on their academic studies in national or international universities as postdoc, faculty member or go for a job in private or state foundations where Sport and Movement Science is used or developed.

D.14. Profile of the Programme


PhD program in Sport Science and Technology is composed of 4 semesters. Pre-requisites for the courses are provided in the course syllabus in the Programme Information Package. To graduate from this programme student has to get at least 240 ECTS. This credit load includes the credits of Doctorate Thesis which is compulsory.
