D.1. General Information about Program


The aim of the doctorate program is to train graduate students, who have depth knowledge in the field of Molecular Metabolism, capable of making genotype-phenotype correlation through understanding of the structure-function relationships of biomolecules and in hereditary diseases. Our students will be trained to understand the basics of molecular mechanism underlying the diseases and principles of targeted therapy approach, capable of developing hypotheses and planning a high level of scientific research in this area and able to apply analytical procedures and methods in molecular genetics and analytical chemistry. The graduates encouraged to be able to present and publish the data obtained by their thesis and research results in scientific community. The program objectives provide trainees the competence to develop an original and independent scientific thinking, to be a qualified scientist, doctor of science degree in molecular metabolism at the international level.

Medical doctors, MD PhD students, graduates with master of science degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Medical Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacy

To have ALES (SAY / EA) score type and ALES and Foreign Language base score determined by the Health Sciences Institute Board and approved by the Hacettepe University Senate

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations


In order to graduate from the program, except for the Preparatory Course for the Proficiency Exam, at least seven courses, one seminar course, thesis proposal and thesis study, with a minimum of 21 national credits and not less than 90 ECTS, a minimum of 240 ECTS during their doctoral studies. must complete. Students who successfully complete their courses and have an academic average of at least 3.00 can take the doctoral qualifying exam. The student who is successful in the proficiency exam and whose thesis proposal is accepted prepares the doctoral thesis under the supervision of the thesis monitoring committee. He has to write his results in accordance with the institute thesis writing rules, present his thesis in front of the jury and defend it orally. For every stage of the program, the relevant rules set out in the Hacettepe University Postgraduate Education Regulation are valid.

Doctorate candidates are trained as a scientist and educated and experienced with the knowledge on inherited metabolic diseases, they will be able to perform advanced  analytical   chemistry and molecular genetics methods.

Doctorate candidates will be qualified at the end of the program as a result of applying laboratory experiments and studies  during their thesis studies, earning theoretical knowledge from lectures , and they can continue their research activities as an independent researcher.

They are informed with good laboratory practices and the biosafety rules and they obey these rules for their laboratory studies. They will be knowledged for iterpretation of the primary and advanced metabolic and molecular genetics tests and experiments for thediagnosis of inherited metabolic diseases.   

They can develop new technologies which can be used for identification of metabolic diseases at the national level. They can work for development of new methods for metabolic screening programs.

They can criticise their own knowledge as a qualified scientist who are able to plans original research and applies it, they can apply and obey ethical rules in their studies working with a team or alone.  

Multidiciplinary approach are needed for Metabolism research. This study area is known as biochemical genetics and requires to apply many different research activities together in the field of molecular genetics, anlytical chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, molecular cell biology. At the end of the program, trainees will be qualified on basic principles of these fields and experienced with the application of different laboratory methodologies.

Graduate students works in a  atmosphere which is designed for interdiciplinary team research.

They can follow up recent advances in the field of molecular metabolism and  literature at  international level.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples


Graduates can engage in education, research and consultancy activities in universities, research centers, training and research hospitals, Ministry of Health and private health institutions. Graduates can pursue their careers in universities as academics.

D.14. Profile of the Programme


Program covers at least 8 semesters in 4 academic years. Students should perform activites of 30 ECTS in each semester.

The program consists of at least 240 ECTS credits, with a minimum of 30 ECTS courses in the first 4 semesters and a total of 120 ECTS credits in the last 4 semesters. Students have to complete compulsory courses in the first two years (four semesters). Required credits are provided from elective courses. Students who have completed at least 120 ECTS credits can take additional elective courses with the approval of their advisor.
