Master program of radiotherapy physics is a two-year full-time education program. The language of education is Turkish. It has been accepting students with B.S. degrees in relevant branches since the Fall semester of 1993. Quotas for each semester are announced on the Institute of Health Sciences page before applying. The maximum duration of the program is six semesters according to Article 37, paragraph 1 of Hacettepe University Postgraduate Education and Examination Regulation.
During the first two semesters of the program, along with didactic courses, applied education proceeds in medical physics unit and radiotherapy machines in the department of radiation oncology in order to improve the clinical and practical capacity of a student. Students, therefore, have the opportunity to observe the radiotherapy applications and enhance their knowledge which they have gained in the lectures. They improve their practical sufficiency under the supervision of radiotherapy physics specialists. The diverse machines in the department give a change to individually observe the modern applications of brachytherapy and external radiotherapy for the students.
During the education program, a student observes and comprehends the function of radiotherapy physics specialist in the radiation oncology clinics. They comprehend both the contribution of physics specialist in diverse levels of radiotherapy of a patient and the mechanism of the treatment process. They also observe and comprehend both the relationships of a radiotherapy physicist with the other members of the department, i.e. physicians, therapists and nurses and the harmony in working mechanisms of different units in radiotherapy clinics.
During the third and fourth semesters of the program, along with clinical practices, students continue academic studies with master thesis supervised by the professors in the radiation oncology department. Students will therefore be adequate in academics along with in clinics. They graduate from the program with a quality necessary to both follow the clinical and practical improvements in the radiotherapy field and contribute them. The program does not have an internship requirement.
