D.1. General Information about Program

The knowledge and skills provided in physiotherapy and rehabilitation undergraduate education cannot fully meet the needs when evaluated in terms of intensive care physiotherapists. Insufficient professional knowledge during undergraduate education, especially in the intensive care environment, can cause physiotherapists' employment problems. It is aimed with this program to train physiotherapists equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills, to contribute to their professional practices, to gain competence in performing and monitoring appropriate physiotherapy and rehabilitation treatments in the field of intensive care, and to contribute to meeting the need for trained personnel in our country. 


The language of the program is Turkish. In order to graduate, students must have completed at least ten courses, not less than 30 credits and 60 ECTS and a 30 ECTS semester project course. The training program also includes clinical skills such as patient evaluation/monitoring in addition to theoretical courses. Elective courses related to the fundamental and vocational courses specified in the program will be given by the relevant expert faculty members of our Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. Practical study  will be conducted in the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Unit in the Faculty of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation and intensive care units of Hacettepe University Hospitals when necessary.

To have an undergraduate (BSc) degree diploma in the area of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.

In order to graduate from the non-thesis master's program from physiotherapy in intensive care, students must complete 60 ECTS credits and complete the semester project together with the compulsory courses. At least 40% of the total course credits must be earned from internal and external elective courses. The courses and semester project must be satisfactorily completed the courses following the provisions of the HU Graduate Education and Examination Regulations, and a minimum overall academic average of 2.50 must be achieved.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

There is no similar program in the country. It is possible to transfer for successful students who have completed an equivalent education in another center abroad and have completed at least one semester. In order for the applications to be accepted, there must be a quota for non-thesis graduate students in the department; the student must meet the student admission requirements of the graduate program to which he/she wishes to transfer, and must have completed at least one semester of graduate education and passed each of the courses with at least C1 grade. Horizontal transfer and recognition of courses Physiotherapy in Intensive Care non-thesis master's program are accepted after discussion in the Academic Board and becomes final with the decision of the institute board of directors.

The physiotherapy in intensive care non-thesis master's program aims to gain specific knowledge, and practice skills in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy applications in intensive care and train physiotherapists specialized in this field in Turkey.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

As in every profession, the importance of specialization in physiotherapy is increasing. In this direction, it is ensured that physiotherapists trained in intensive care certify their expertise with this non-thesis master's degree to increase their professional competence. Graduates of intensive care physiotherapist non-thesis master's program can work in adult or pediatric intensive care units of hospitals.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Intensive Care Physiotherapist Non-Thesis Master's Program is planned to be carried out in three education semesters. The program consists of two parts: the course period (2 semesters) and the semester project period (1 semester). During the course period, the candidate is expected to take 60 ECTS courses, including compulsory and elective courses, and to be successful in these. Students can take courses from elective courses within the program or from the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program within the Institute of Health Sciences and other programs deemed appropriate by the program's faculty members. While the courses in the program provide the students with basic information about the field from the first semester, the applied courses are aimed at transforming the learned knowledge into skills and competencies. The candidates conduct research on the determined project subject under the supervision of their advisors during the Semester project period. The semester project period consists of one semester. The data obtained at the end of this period are written according to the rules set in the Health Sciences Institute Thesis Writing Guide and presented as a project.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

Students who satisfactorily complete at least ten courses and credits determined in the curriculum in the first two semesters must take the semester project course in the third semester. The student has to register for this course in the semester he/she has taken the semester project course and submit a written project and/or report at the end of the semester.
