D.1. General Information about Program

This program aims to provide students with knowledge, understanding and skills in the scientific field of endodontic expertise as well as independent thinking and the ability to investigate their original work in the field to plan, manage and finalize the skills, attitudes and behavior and provide information and skills for serving society. This program is provided by the Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Endodontics. Hacettepe University, Faculty of Dentistry was established, as the School of Dental Medicine as a part of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1963. It has been entitled as a‘faculty' in 1971, and each scientific field has been established as a separate section. By the year 1975, each scientific division has been named as a discipline and ‘Discipline of Endodontics' was .established. On 02.05.2001 with the approval of the Board of Higher Education, discipline of endodontics was recognized as a separate department.

ENDODONTICS (DENTAL) doctoral education, aims to educate dentists equipped with abilities to take charge as researchers and educators in fields such as scientific research, health care and education. Academic training squad consists of 7 professors, 3 associate professors and 1 lecturer and 2 specialists. 51 PhD students have been graduated from our program to date.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. Faculty of Dentistry graduates will be accepted to the program.
2. Admission conditions have been provided by the Institute of Health Sciences.
3. The candidate must pass oral and / or written examination made by the department.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students accepted to the PhD program must complete necessary doctoral lessons during the program.

To obtain the title of Doctor of Science, students must fulfill the conditions of the H. U Graduate Education and Examination Regulations. Other necessary conditions:

1. The conditions for beginning of the student's thesis work;

A. Necessary conditions to be successful in the proficiency exam:

- Endodontics PhD lessons (at least 22 credits) should be successfully completed.

-Student must present at least one seminar per year for doctoral education.

- Student must participate in at least one research study during doctoral education.

- Student must acquire the ability to prepare oral presentations and posters at scientific meetings.

- Student must implement subjects of scientific ethics.

- Must have scientific interest and motivation.

- Must pass oral and written assessment in the field of endodontics implemented by The jury of the proficiency examination according to as a result of the jury must have found successful.

B. The requirements for thesis study:

- Must be successful in the proficiency examination

- Thesis subject must construct or present a scientific or methodological problem

- Must have the necessary theroretical or methodological background for the thesis study.

- Must construct a hyphothesis to solve this problem,

- If necessary, must obtained approval of the ethics committee,

- Must present the draft of the thesis study to be conducted to the academic board with the hypothesis of the thesis, purpose and plan of the study.

C. The requirements for the defense of the thesis:

-Must have completed a thesis as dictated by the graduate education regulations and prepared in accordance with instructions and standards of the Institute of Health Sciences.

-Must have theoretical basis of the methods applied during-thesis.

-Must be able to give an up to date lecture about the thesis that he/she prepared.

Must be able to interpret the data obtained during thesis,

-Must be able to plan a scientific project on his own, must have reached the maturity to realize.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Required to have a master degree from a dental faculty or have an equivalent education from an overseas university.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

Endodontics doctoral program is a course-based education to raise researchers in the field of endodontics The researcher takes part or acts as a leader in research studies and / or science of endodontics.

Graduates in the field of dentistry and Endodontics, find job opportunities in education and research-based areas.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Endodontics doctoral program requires preparation of a thesis. It lasts at least 8 semesters and there are at least 22 local, 240 ECTS.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Studies such as course exam / assignments / projects and a final exam is done for each course by the instructor. Evaluation criteria for each course are given in description of each course. Half year-end exams are held according to the calendar date range which was declared by Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences at the beginning of the academic year. Teaching staff evaluates all studies, homework, midterm exams, and overall exam in the semester according to the scoring system defined by the Institute.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

Students taking classes mentioned earlier, fulfilling the criteria, passing the qualification exam and completing thesis and dissertation defense are considered to have successfully completed PhD study.
