D.1. General Information about Program

Master of surgical nursing is founded in 1968 at Hacettepe University. This program include in course and thesis which are continue 4 semester (2 year). A student who has successfully completed 120 ECTS credits and graduate thesis, including at least 21 national credits and not less than 60 ECTS credits, 7 courses, 1 seminar course and 60 ECTS thesis studies, is graduated as a program scientist. Master of surgical nursing program is in Turkish and is conducted by 5 faculty members. The quota is determined according to the number of thesis advisors per faculty member included in the Lisansüstü Eğitim-Öğretim Programı Açılması ve Yürütülmesine Dair İlkeler.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

To have a bachelor diploma of nursing

To have worked as a nurse for at least one year in public or private hospitals

To meet the application requirements of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exam Regulations and Institute of Health Sciences.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Compulsory credit burden of master of surgical nursing is 21 national credit (120 ECTS) to graduated from this program. A student who to succeed relavant course, that is required to get at least 65 (C1) on 100 point scale. Master with thesis of student who obtained to results related to thesis, must writes concordantly with relevant thesis writing guide and defense of thesis verbally in front of a jury. The graduation date of the student's is when the signed copy of the thesis is delivered to the institute by examination jury commission.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Successful students that have attended at least one semester at the university or at graduate programs of other higher education institutions may transfer to another graduate program at the university. In order for the applications to be accepted; In the related department / master's course, there are sufficient student quotas for doctoral / artistic students, students have got the conditions for student admission to the graduate programs and at least one semester is taken by the graduate students. Must have received the achievement grades specified in the third paragraph of Article 16 of the Postgraduate Education-Training and Examination Regulations and must have provided the necessary general academic averages. Acceptance of the students who are deemed to be suitable for the transfer is finalized by the decision of the institute board of directors. The graduate programs without thesis can not be transferred to graduate programs with thesis. Only students who are in the process of taking courses can apply for a transfer to the undergraduate education programs of the university.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The aim of this program is to train a knowledgeable, sufficient and competent Surgical Nursing Specialist who have wide and current knowledge in the field of Surgical Nursing, who can plan and implement a scientific research, who is comprehending and using an interdisciplinary team approach, who can plan and implement comprehensive perioperative care of surgical patient, who can plan and implement a scientific research on field, who can analyze and report the obtained data, and publish it in national scale or internationl journal or present it in scientific a meeting.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

To determine graduates' occupational profile the opinions of faculties, graduates and employers were taken. The all faculties indicated that our graduates had ability to synthesize and analyze and appropriate knowledge; could reach the references easily; identify ethical principles and behave with ethical manner; plan a study and report it; were sensible for professional problems; could communicate effectively and solve the problems. The half of the faculties indicated that our graduates partially could give rapid decision, sensible for health problems, had self-confidence, knew health regulations and could establish the study that they conducted. All the graduates indicated that they could communicate effectively, synthesize and analyze, carry on team work, solve the problems that they faced, reach the references easily, were sensible for health problems; however, the hall of the graduates indicated that they could partially plan a study and establish it, behave in ethical manner, do actions to improve the profession, knew health regulations and could not contribute professional theoretical knowledge. One graduate indicated that he/she could associate the reasons between the events, had critical thinking skills, was aware of her/his responsibilities and tasks, and was open to education and studies rather than the other universities graduates. Half of the graduates stated that the education would prepare them to profession very well. One graduate suggested the courses about health regulations and nursing ethics would be added to curricula. The status of orientation to the hospitals of our graduates was found very compatible by the half of the employers, as the other half found compatible. The all employers indicated that our graduates were tend to team work, could reach the references easily, communicate effectively, behave in ethical manner, were sensible for professional problems, had self-confidence and leadership characteristics; however, the half stated that the graduates partially were sensible for health problems, could determine health problems and knew health regulations.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The master program is conducted by Surgical Nursing department's faculty. The students registered to this program, have to get at least 21 national and 120 ECTS credits during 2 years (4 semesters). 75% of compulsory and 25% of elective courses constitute the program. In the program the total ECTS credits for compulsory courses are 90, for intra department elective courses are 38 (1 ECTS credit is equal to 30 hours work load). The students should choose elective courses inside and outside the department. All the courses in master program are for each semester. The students complete all the courses in two semesters and start thesis study in third semester.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Midterms exam are done in semester and student get study such as laboratory studies, homework , projects and workplace done along semester which are accepted as a midterm exam. A final exam belongs to a course is performed end of this course's semester. Unless a student join a final exam, he/she get F2mark. Excuse examination is able to be accepted as final or midterm exams. When a student's excuse is accepted by the academic department administirative comittee, he/she use of midterm exam rights at the same semester and final exam rights within one month by end of the semester.

Achievement status of a course identify with pass mark. Pass mark is assessed together success of final exam and studies such as midterm exams, practice, homework. Ä°mpact of assessments during the semester on achievement mark is able to be maximum fifty persentage. Students of master to be succeed a course, that is requered to get at least 65 point.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

A student who has completed all of the courses in the program and successfully completed the master's thesis within the maximum duration and who has graduated from the institute by submitting all relevant information and documents mentioned in Article 29 of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations, is sufficiency. The maximum duration of the program is four semesters, regardless of whether or not they are enrolled for each semester, starting from the semester the course is given and the program is completed in maximum six semesters.
