D.1. General Information about Program

Doctorate program of surgical nursing is founded in 1972 at Hacettepe University. This program include in course and thesis which are continue 8 semester (4 year). When a student who successfully complete course that worth at least 21 credit, doctoral thesis and profiency exam, graduated from a doctor of philosophy. Doctorate program of surgical nursing is in Turkish and is conducted by 5 faculty members. The quota is determined according to the number of thesis advisors per faculty member included in the Lisansüstü Eğitim-Öğretim Programı Açılması ve Yürütülmesine Dair İlkeler.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

To have a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree from any nursing field.

Scientific preparation courses are taken to students accepted from a field other than Surgical Nursing.

To have ALES (SAY / EA) score type and ALES and Foreign Language base score determined by the Health Sciences Institute Board and approved by the Hacettepe University Senate http://www.saglikbilimleri.hacettepe.edu.tr/en/menu/ales_foreign_language_scores-252

To meet the application requirements of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exam Regulations and Institute of Health Sciences.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Compulsory credit burden of doctorate of surgical nursing is 21 national credit (240 ECTS) to graduated from this program. A student who to succeed relavant course, that is required to get at least 75 on 100 point scale and must do well in the proficiency exam before thesis study. Doctorate  with thesis of student who obtained to results related to thesis, must writes concordantly with relevant thesis writing guide and defense of thesis verbally in front of a jury.

Except for the Proficiency Exam Preparation course, the maximum time to successfully complete the required credit courses for the doctoral program is four semesters for those who are accepted with a master's degree with thesis, and six semesters for those who are accepted to a doctorate program integrated with a bachelor's degree. Students who fail to successfully complete the aforementioned credit courses within this period or whose cumulative grade point average is at least 3.00 out of 4 are dismissed.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Successful students that have attended at least one semester at the university or at graduate programs of other higher education institutions may transfer to another graduate program at the university. In order to accepted of applications must be have graduate, doctorate/art proficiency student quotas in the relevant department, student have provide the accept conditions to post-graduate programs, have taken success notes specified in the third paragraph of Article 16, of this regulations, each of the courses taken at least one semester, provided the required overall academic averages. The adjustments of eligible students for transfer are made with the decision of the Board of Directors of the institute upon the recommendation of the department. Student's of any master's degree program must be as well as the conditions determine by the relevant department provide, at least seven course in master's degree program successfully complete, at least 3.50 of master's degree overall academic average, at least 3.00 of graduate overall academic average for apply to doctorate/art proficiency. Undergraduate overall academic average is not considered in case of above 3.80 graduate's overall academic average. To those students allows periods that recognized to student who admitted with undergraduate degree and spend periods in master's degree program are counted teaching time. To the university's post-graduate education programs may apply only student who are taking courses for transfers.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

To gain feature of universal scientist and universal level related to education and investigation at Surgical Nursing field, to plan and implement study concern with surgical nursing, to present obtained data in aid of science and humanity, to train PhD Surgical Nurse, who is intellectual, sufficiently qualified, perfect and who has level of national and international knowledge.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

To determine graduates' occupational profile the opinions of faculties, graduates and employers were taken. The all faculties indicated that our graduates had ability to synthesize and analyze and appropriate knowledge; could reach the references easily; identify ethical principles and behave with ethical manner; plan a study and report it; were sensible for professional problems; could communicate effectively and solve the problems. The half of the faculties indicated that our graduates partially could give rapid decision, sensible for health problems, had self-confidence, knew health regulations and could establish the study that they conducted. All the graduates indicated that they could communicate effectively, synthesize and analyze, carry on team work, solve the problems that they faced, reach the references easily, behave in ethical manner, plan a study and establish it, were sensible for health and professional problems; however, the 67% of the graduates stated that they partially knew health regulations, and 33% partially could establish their studies. The graduates stated that analytical thinking, language, academic writing and study planning skills had improved, their dissertations were original, the importance given to scientific development was more, they gained ethical worth and respect for human rights, rather than other universities. The all employers indicated that our graduates were tend to team work, could reach the references easily, communicate effectively, behave in ethical manner, were sensible for professional problems, had self-confidence and leadership characteristics; however, the half stated that the graduates partially were sensible for health problems, could determine health problems and knew health regulations.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The PhD program is conducted by Surgical Nursing department's faculty. The students registered to this program, have to get at least 21 national and 240 ECTS credits during 4 years (8 semesters). 77% of compulsory and 23% of elective courses constitute the program. In the program the total ECTS credits for compulsory courses are 184, for intra department elective courses are 54 (1 ECTS credit is equal to 30 hours work load). The students should choose elective courses inside and outside the department. All the courses in PhD program are for each semester. The students complete all the courses in four semesters and start thesis study in fifth semester.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

This is based on Graduate Education And Examination Regulations Of Hacettepe University.

Exams are four types as midterm exams,final exams and excuse exams. Midterms exam are done in semester and student get study such as laboratory studies, homework , projects and workplace done along semester which are accepted as a midterm exam. A final exam belongs to a course is performed end of this course's semester. Unless a student join a final exam, he/she get F2mark. Excuse examination is able to be accepted as final or midterm exams. When a student's excuse is accepted by the institute administirative comittee, he/she use of midterm exam rights at the same semester and final exam rights within one month by end of the semester.

Achievement status of a course identify with pass mark. Pass mark is assessed together success of final exam and studies such as midterm exams, practice, homework. Impact of assessments during the semester on achievement mark is able to be maximum fifty persentage. Students of doctorate to be succeed a course, that is requered to get at least 75 point.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

A student provided that complete successfully doctorate thesis, proficiency exam and all courses that belong to doctorate program, has general academic average between 3.00 and 4.00 who provide with essential competence for graduation.
