D.1. General Information about Program

Doctoral Degree in Analytical Chemistry was founded in 1971. The program provides theoretical and practical lessons in doctoral-level. The purpose of the program is to educate individuals who have the ability to communicate in their field of national and international knowledge and have received modern education in the field of Analytical Chemistry, can conduct and evaluate a research plan and report the results for the benefit of mankind. Students who are in this doctoral degree program have the opportunity to work in a research laboratory equipped technically. The language of instruction is Turkish.

Candidates who wish to apply for a doctoral program;

Must have a master's degree at least ten semesters in Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Science Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering Department of Chemical Engineering.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to graduate from Analytical Chemistry Doctoral Degree Programme at least B2 (75 - 79)  grade in all courses is required to be successful. Master's degree program includes, lessons with a total of not less than 24 credits, thesis and special topics courses. The programme consists a total of 120 ECTS lesson and 120 ECTS thesis study according to the European Credit Transfer System. Total is 240 ECTS credits. H.U. Graduate Education and Examination Regulations are applied for achievement scores for exams and courses.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Successful students, studied at least one semester graduate program at university or other higher education institutions, may apply to transfer to another graduate program carried out at the university.

For the acceptance of applications relevant to the quota of doctoral students in the department, the student needs to meet the conditions of post-graduate program wishing to transfer and should success each of the courses that failed according to 26 of the Regulation of the third paragraph. Admission requirements of Turkish citizens residing abroad or foreign students to graduate programs shall be determined by the Senate after opinion of the department and on the proposal of the Institute Board of Directors.

Educate individuals received modern education in the field of analytical chemistry, plan and conduct a research stand-alone, evaluate and report the results, gained the ability to offer the benefit of mankind and science, in their field ability of national and international information and communication with the ability to integrate knowledge from different disciplines develop knowledge and experiences. He/she prepares, presents, defends and publishes His/her Doctoral thesis bringing new sight to science supporting with theoretical and experimental findings and using scientific information resources.

The graduates who know Analytical Chemistry program, theoretical and practical aspects of classical and modern method analysis and using these methods, are working in several ministries such as the Ministry of Health and the relevant units of various government institution that require knowledge of analytical chemistry. They are working in the pharmaceutical industry, all kinds of quality control, biochemistry and food laboratories, hospitals, pharmacies. Also, they are working as academic staff in several universities.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Analytical Chemistry Doctorate Program's ratio of required courses is 17% and ratio of elective courses is 83%. The courses opened in other departments' program can be taken when necessary. Program has been started with required and elective courses in 1971. Required courses and elective courses are one term in this program, students can take elective and required courses during the first of three term, and fourth term is required to take the course of doctoral qualifying exam. At the end of the fourth semester elective courses is completed with required courses. The first of two years is the theoretical term when taken elective and required courses. Third and fourth year is the practical term that the students work on their theses to carried out.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate, a student, who successfully completes all the requirements of the PhD program, must fulfill the relevant articles of the H.U. Graduate Education and Examination Regulations (Government newspaper numbered 29900 and dated November 26th, 2016)

Doctorate program consists of courses, proficiency exam, thesis proposal, thesis study and thesis.
