Preliminaries of the division of ballet, ballet dancıng department was established in 1947, with the cooperation between the Turkish Government and the British Government acted with the Istanbul Yeşilköy Ballet School which merged with the Ankara State Conservatory in 1950.
The founder and the administrator of the school was Ninette de Valois, the founder of the British Royal Ballet School and Community Dame. Between the years of 1950 -1974 school was along the lines of the work of the British school. Since 1975 the Russian Vaganova school of thought was chosen as the continuing education system.
Starting with Primary 5th grade, ballet education process includes undergraduate degree.
With the Ballet Arts degree programmes conducted by Department; students closely follow the work in the international arena, which has in the field of classical ballet and contemporary dance performer of contemporary methods and techniques for the need of institutions, provides education and contribute to the accumulation of social culture through the staging of various plays.

In order to be a graduate of Doctor of Fine Arts Degree Programme, including mandatory and elective courses, a national credit total of 26, is required to obtain whereas ECTS credits needed is a total of 120.

The aims of the Dept. Of Ballet, Ballet Arts of fine Arts Master's Degree are the followings;
Through the analysis of the Vaganova Ballet education system, provide the academic staff that country needs in the field of classical ballet education, qualified staff to instruct classical ballet academic staff open to innovations and developments in the field of dance and ballet, aware of their responsibilities towards the society.
Although our graduates have the adequate theorical information about Vaganova Classical Ballet ; in practice, it has been observed some problems derived from lack of experiments. So, in Division of Ballet, precautions have been taken in order to eleminate this problem by means of observations and following the courses given in classical ballet education classes.
