D.1. General Information about Program

The Master Program in Engineering Management is offered by the Academic Board of Industrial Engineering and is aimed to be active starting from the Fall Semester of 2014-2015 Academic Year. The Department of Industrial Engineering at Hacettepe University was established in 2004 and is performing its activities in its own building, having 4 floors and an effective area of 900 m2. The medium of instruction of the Master Program is Turkish. The first two semesters of the Master Program are composed of compulsory and elective courses, whereas the last semester is allocated to the elective courses, Term Project and the Seminar course. Students are further equipped more for decision making during their professional life through their experience obtained in the “Term Project” course. Facilities for the applications of the courses are; Computer Aided Education, Simulation, Quality Engineering and Health Care Systems Engineering Laboratories. Seminars are organized in the Department of Industrial Engineering on a regular basis to discuss the technological, scientific and practical activities. Students have the chance to meet national and international expert speakers in these seminars.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

The following requirements should be satisfied in order to apply for the Master Program in Engineering Management:

  • An undergraduate degree from the departments of Engineering Faculties or from other departments  approved by the Administration Board of the Institute of Science upon the suggestion of the Academic Board of the Program.

All applications, admissions and registration procedures are governed by the Hacettepe University?s Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations. ALES and language scores are not required for application and admission.

The following requirements should be satisfied in order to graduate from the Master Program in Engineering Management:

  • To succeed in at least 12 courses (2 compulsory courses including the Seminar and Term Project courses and 10 electives), by acquiring a minimum of 90 ECTS and 30 national credits as summarized below, according to the structure of the program.
    • ECTS Credits: Compulsory – 20, In-field (technical) electives – 70; Total – 90
    • National Credits: Compulsory – 0, In-field (technical) electives – 30; Total – 30

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications of the students who apply for a transfer to the Master Program in Engineering Management after studying at another graduate program at a national and international higher education institution are evaluated by the Industrial Engineering Academic Board according to the 18th Article of the Hacettepe University's Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations. Admission and transfer of credits and course grades for eligible students are approved by the Administration Board of the Institute of Science.

The objective of Master Program in Engineering Management is to have the students who have at least an undergraduate degree from the departments of Engineering Faculties or other related departments to acquire the necessary advanced knowledge, skills, abilities and competency; to design, analyze, plan, improve and control processes in order to solve engineering problems in production and service industries with a system perspective of view. Acquisition of the skills to develop and implement novel methods, tools and technologies to design and analyze engineering systems are targeted as well as the competencies for data-driven decision making.

The engineering management functions its applications are not limited to a specific sector or a field of activity. Therefore, graduates from Engineering Management Master Program can be employed in many small and large scale companies and enterprises of public and private sector in all industries no matter what their undergraduate degrees are. There is a quite wide occupational profile of the engineering management graduates who are employed as decision makers at all levels for the design, analysis, planning, monitoring and improvement of engineering systems. Among the common employment areas are; production planning, quality management, project/program management, capacity and workforce planning, purchasing, logistics, cost and financial accounting, system analysis, business development, risk management, inventory control, supply chain management, enterprise resource planning, research and development, human resources and information technology.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The Master Program in Engineering Management consists of a total of 90 ECTS credits to be acquired in 3 semesters. It especially emphasizes the skills and competencies stated in the program outcomes. 41 ECTS credits (percentage of credits as 46%) are allocated to compulsory courses whereas 49 ECTS credits (percentage of credits as 54%) are for the elective courses.

Out of 41 ECTS credits allocated for compulsory courses, 6 ECTS credits are for the seminar and 10 ECTS credits are for the Term Project studies. The elective courses for which 49 ECTS credits have been reserved in the Master Program in Engineering Management are intended for the skills and competencies to be acquired in the Engineering Management specialty areas and they can be enrolled starting with the first semester. Elective courses should be taken, with the consent of the course advisor, from the Elective Courses of the Master Program in Engineering Management and from other programs which are approved by the Academic Board of the Industrial Engineering. A student might register for up to three undergraduate courses, if not enrolled during the undergraduate education, by the consent of the Chair of the Academic Program.

  • To succeed in at least 12 courses (5 compulsory courses including the Seminar and Term Project courses and 7 electives), by acquiring a minimum of 90 ECTS and 33 national credits as summarized below, according to the structure of the program.
    • ECTS Credits: Compulsory – 41, In-field (technical) electives – 49; Total – 90
    • National Credits: Compulsory – 12, In-field (technical) electives – 21; Total – 33
