D.1. General Information about Program

General Biology Program established as ‘'General Biology Department'' in 1976 and after that it took place like one of the programs in Biology Department in 1981. The first head of General Biology Program was Prof. Dr Ahmet Noyan. The following heads of the program were Prof.Dr. Nazif Kolonkaya, Dr. Ali Nihat Bozcuk, Prof. Dr. Emir Cansunar and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Onur. Currently head of the department is Prof. Dr. Hacer Ãœnlü. There are four basic science branches in this program: Animal and Cell Physiology, Genetics, Microbiology and Cytology.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Master's degree program, not less than 24 credits, consists of special topics course and the study of thesis. According to the European Credit Transfer System, not less than a total of 60 ECTS of the courses and not less than 60 ECTS credits for thesis study, by completing the special topics course, which includes thesis study and successfully complete thesis study. D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

With the inclusion of graduate courses, which were taken as a special student of a student, graduate courses, which were taken before the enrollment in the institute in the last five years, from domestic/international higher education institutions can be transferred to program, the student is enrolled, according the advisor opinion, recommendation of the board of the department and decision of board of institute. However, more than 2/3 of the total credit a student enrollment of program is not considered to transfer of credits of graduates courses as special student. D.7. Goals and Objectives

The aim of MSc program in General Biology is to educate the masters of science who enhance knowledge in specialty, to be able to use techniques and methods related with scientific issues and to be able to evaluate obtained data with statistical methods which meets the requirements of the country.

Graduates of MSc program can work in related disciplines in universities, hospitals, research institutes and related public institutions and organizations.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

MSc program contains 4 semester. Students need at least 120 ECTS and a MSc thesis in order to graduate from the program.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

A student, who successfully completed to compulsory courses of the program (at least 60 ECTS credits) and has academic average at least 2.75, presents thesis/art work at the end of the second semester. After the succesful thesis defence, the student graduates from program.
