D.1. General Information about Program

Back

One of the fields where knowledge and technology are most intensively used is health sciences and medicine. The measurement and imaging methods, as well as the testing, analysis, and monitoring devices used, are rapidly developing and increasing in number. As a result, medical knowledge is continuously enriching, and the amount of medical data and information collected for patients is also increasing at a significant pace. The abundance of scientific studies conducted in medicine and the difficulties and delays in applying this literature to practice highlight the inevitable importance of information technologies as a useful method to overcome these challenges.

Health Informatics aims to create, process, format, share, and ultimately determine, select, and improve the care and treatment of patients based on this information and data.

The evaluation and synthesis of the information produced in all scientific fields, as well as the results reached in research, have always been on the agenda of Health Informatics, particularly in relation to human health. This agenda will increasingly require integrative interdisciplinary approaches. Considering this need, one of the most important steps that Turkey must take in the field of Health Informatics is to develop human resources in this area.

It is essential to establish "shareable" and "utilizable" processes in health services that make the highest use of the opportunities provided by information technologies and to extend these processes to inter-institutional sharing and development. In short, it is of great importance to create a structure where education and research in Health Informatics are institutionalized in line with the country's priorities.

To this end, the Health Informatics Master's Program with Thesis is conducted with the aim of training the qualified human resources needed by the sector. The language of instruction for the program is English.
