D.1. General Information about Program

The Non-Thesis Master's Program in Disaster Management Engineering, conducted within the Department of Disaster Management Engineering at Hacettepe University Graduate School of Science and Engineering, is systematically designed to specialize individuals in the field of disaster management, providing a comprehensive and multidisciplinary master's program.

Hacettepe University, Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Department of Disaster Management Engineering, was established based on the decision taken at the Higher Education General Assembly Meeting on June 19, 2014. The Non-Thesis Master's Program in Disaster Management Engineering planned to commence its education in the Fall semester of 2014-2015.

This master's program, especially tailored to meet the needs of public institutions, aims to provide technical knowledge and methods to enable professionals to specialize in the field of Disaster Management Engineering, and to impart competency through various applications. Within the scope of this multidisciplinary program, interdisciplinary theoretical and applied education will be provided through courses prepared based on the use of science and engineering in the areas of disaster preparedness, disaster management, disaster recovery planning, and protection of society from the destructive effects of disasters. The target audience of the program is graduates with bachelor's degrees in science or engineering who are currently employed in public or private sector institutions and wish to specialize in disaster management.

The language of instruction for the program is Turkish.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

Individuals holding a bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering may apply to the Disaster Management Engineering Master's Program. The student quotas for the master's program are recommended by the Departmental Academic Board, and the necessary documents for application, examination procedures and dates, as well as other conditions, are determined and applied in accordance with the relevant articles of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulation. Admission to the program and application requirements are published on the Hacettepe University Graduate School of Science and Engineering website before the start of the academic semester. Additionally, individuals currently enrolled or have completed undergraduate or graduate studies at a higher education institution and wish to enhance their knowledge and practical skills in a specific area may be admitted as special students with the approval of the course instructor and department chair, and the approval of the Institute of Science Board, to attend relevant courses as Special Students.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to qualify for a Master's degree in Disaster Management Engineering, under the supervision of the Department Chair and with the approval of the course advisor, successful completion of a total of 12 compulsory courses, including the Applied Semester Project course, not less than 90 credits, and 6 elective courses is required. The 'Semester Project' course is conducted under the supervision of an advisor assigned by the Department Academic Board for one semester in the final semester of the courses, after successful completion of the compulsory courses, and the report and presentation prepared at the end of the semester are evaluated as either successful or unsuccessful.

The Disaster Management Engineering Master's Program lasts for 3 semesters (1.5 years) and the list of compulsory and elective courses is provided in the curriculum. Up to half of the elective courses may be taken from other programs within HU with the approval of the course advisor. Details of the courses within the Disaster Management Engineering Master's Program are available on the Hacettepe University Bologna Coordination Office website (http://www.hubologna.hacettepe.edu.tr). Courses to be offered each semester and course instructors are recommended to the Institute by the Department Academic Board. The Disaster Management Engineering Master's Program is conducted in accordance with the relevant articles of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education, Teaching, and Examination Regulation. Upon successful completion of the program requirements, the student is awarded a 'Master of Science in Disaster Management Engineering' degree by the Hacettepe University Graduate School of Science and Engineering.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

It is possible for successful students who have received an equivalent education at another higher education institution at home or abroad and completed at least one semester to make a horizontal transfer or to have equivalent courses in this program previously taken at different higher education institutions be recognized. In order for applications to be accepted, there must be graduate student quotas in the department, the student must have met the student admission conditions of the graduate program to which he/she wants to transfer, and must have been successful in each of the courses he/she has taken by studying for at least one semester. Horizontal transfer and course recognition are discussed and finalized by the decision of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering.

The aim of the program is to provide technical knowledge and methods that will enable university graduates with a four-year bachelor's degree in science or engineering to specialize in areas such as disaster preparedness, disaster response and recovery planning, and protection of society from the destructive effects of disasters through the teaching of various technical knowledge and methods, and to ensure competency through various applications.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The Disaster Management Non-Thesis Master's Program consists of a total of 90 ECTS credits to be completed within 3 semesters. In the master's program, 60 ECTS credits are allocated for compulsory courses, and 30 ECTS credits for elective courses. Of the 60 ECTS credits allocated for compulsory courses, 5 ECTS credits are dedicated to the Semester Project. The 30 ECTS credits allocated for elective courses in the master's program are aimed at developing skills and competencies in various areas of expertise within Disaster Management and can be taken from the second semester onwards. Up to half of the elective courses, with the approval of the course advisor, can be selected from courses offered by other programs approved by the Department Academic Board of Disaster Management Engineering.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The assesment method for related course was determined by " lecturing programme" in information pack that has been prepared by teaching staff. About exam and course success grades related Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exam Regulations are applied.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

For graduation, students must take at least 30 national credit courses and a term project and be successful in all of these courses. According to the European Credit Transfer System, students must take and successfully complete a total of 90 ECTS credits of courses, including a term project. Students who successfully complete the courses and credits specified in the curriculum in the first two semesters must take the Term Project course in the third semester. The student must enroll in the term project course in the semester in which it is taken and submit a written project and/or report at the end of the semester. Students who meet these requirements can graduate from the program.
