D.1. General Information about Program

The Master Program in Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering (second education, without thesis) is offered by the Academic Board of Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering and is active since 2013-2014 Academic Year. The Master Program in Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering (second education, without thesis) is based on a protocol between Hacettepe University and the Turkish Standards Institution. The medium of instruction of the Master Program is Turkish. The first two semesters of the Master Program are composed of compulsory and elective courses, whereas the last semester is allocated to the elective courses, Seminar course and Term Project studies. The master program, which is proposed especially in accordance with the needs of the manufacturing and service industries, aims the instruction of technical knowledge and methods that will enable the specialization through the development and implementation of new methods, tools and technologies in quality and conformity assessment engineering areas and acquisition of competency through applications. Within the scope of the program, interdisciplinary theoretical and practical training courses will be provided for the areas of quality planning, quality management, quality systems, quality control, quality improvement, and conformity assessment. The current structure of the program includes theoretical courses from the Industrial, Computer, Environmental, and Food Engineering areas and courses offered by the Turkish Standards Institution. In the future, new courses from the Electrical and Electronics, Chemical, Materials, Mechanical, Mining, Biomedical and Geological Engineering are to be added to the curriculum.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

All applications, admissions and registrations for the Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering  (second education, without thesis) program are governed by the Hacettepe University?s Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations. An undergraduate degree from the departments of Engineering Faculties or from other departments approved by the Academic Board of the Program is required for admission. ALES and language scores are not required for application and admission. 

 

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The following requirements, in addition to the ones in the Hacettepe University's Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations, should be satisfied in order to graduate from the Master Program in Quality and Conformity Assessment:

· To succeed in at least 12 courses (5 compulsory courses including the Seminar course and Term Project and 7 electives) according to the structure of the program.

o ECTS Credits: Compulsory – 41, In-field (technical) electives – 49; Total – 90

o National Credits: Compulsory – 9, In-field (technical) electives – 21; Total – 30

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications of the students who apply for a transfer to the Master Program in Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering (second education, without thesis) after studying at another graduate program at a national and international higher education institution are evaluated by the Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering Academic Board according to the related Article of the Hacettepe University's Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations. Admission and transfer of credits and course grades for eligible students are approved by the Administration Board of the Institute of Science.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The objective of Master Program in Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering is to have the students who have at least an undergraduate degree to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities and competency, with a system perspective of view, in quality planning, quality management, quality systems, quality improvement, reliability, international standards and conformity assessment in manufacturing and service industries. The master program which is proposed especially in accordance with the needs of the manufacturing and service industries aims the instruction of technical knowledge and methods that will enable the specialization through the development and implementation of new methods, tools and technologies in quality and conformity assessment engineering areas and acquisition of competency through applications.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Although the firms in Turkey are conscious about the importance of the concepts of quality and conformity assessment, it is also observed that the competition in quality and conformity are limited because of the lack of the qualified staff in the areas of quality planning, control, improvement and conformity assessment and the lack of sufficient knowledge and competency. In addition, the scope and the applications of quality and conformity assessment engineering are not limited to a specific sector or a field of activity. Therefore, it is anticipated that graduates from the Master Program in Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering Master Program (second education, without thesis) can be employed in many small and large scale companies and enterprises of public and private sector in all industries no matter what their undergraduate degrees are. Among the common employment areas are; quality planning, quality management, quality systems, quality control, quality improvement, reliability, international standards and conformity assessment.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The Master Program in Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering (second education, without thesis) consists of a total of 90 ECTS credits to be acquired in 3 semesters. It especially emphasizes the skills and competencies stated in the program outcomes. 41 ECTS credits (percentage of credits as 46%) are allocated to compulsory courses whereas 49 ECTS credits (percentage of credits as 54%) are for the elective courses.

Out of 41 ECTS credits allocated for compulsory courses, 6 ECTS credits are for the seminar and 10 ECTS credits are for the Term Project studies. The elective courses for which 49 ECTS credits have been reserved in the Master Program in Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering are intended for the skills and competencies to be acquired in the Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering specialty areas and they can be registered starting from the first semester. Elective courses should be taken, with the consent of the course advisor, from the Elective Courses of the Master Program in Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering (second education, without thesis) and from other programs which are approved by the Academic Board of the Quality and Conformity Assessment Engineering.
