D.1. General Information about Program

PhD Programme in Private Law aims to equip students with an in-depth understanding of the core areas of private law. The goal of PhD programme is to provide students with a wide range of skills, knowledge, attitude, values and ethos for effective practice of law. It aims at providing students with the necessary skills to play an active role in the process of creating law, with the knowledge, skills and confidence that will equip them to contribute positively to society. The programme is intended to produce excellent PhD graduates tooled to contribute to national, regional and international development and to serve the legal profession and the community with life-long dedication, passion and the pursuit for excellence. 

Our aims also include encouraging students to engage in in-depth research on law and incorporating the scientific research process into the education process. Experience over time has revealed that a sufficient level of success in professional fields cannot be achieved without academic knowledge. Our students will learn how to access the necessary information they will need in both their academic and professional activities and how to conduct research.

It is necessary to limit the number of learners so that contemporary teaching approaches, methods and techniques can be applied in educational environments and students can use their senses, interaction and communication skills effectively. In this regard, the number of students in our classes will be kept at a certain level and the personal and academic development of our students will be closely attended to.

The program proposed to be opened will provide a better and more competitive graduate education program within the framework of academic and technological developments. Our students will have the opportunity to improve themselves in oral presentation and communication skills, as well as skills such as judicial correspondence, national and international contract types and writing techniques, using the legal language in the legal profession. The doctoral program is eight semesters for those accepted with a thesis master's degree, excluding the time spent in scientific preparation, starting from the semester in which the courses related to the program in which they are registered are given, regardless of whether they are registered for each semester, and the maximum completion period is twelve semesters; For those accepted to a doctoral program integrated with a bachelor's degree, the duration is ten semesters and the maximum completion period is fourteen semesters.

The language of the PhD program is Turkish. The capacity is limited with 10 people. Internship is not available.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. All candidates must have an LLM (Master of Laws) degree (with thesis) from a Law Faculty in Turkey or from a Foreign Law Faculty recognized by the Turkish Higher Education Board.

2. To be holding a minimum of 70 points (required score type is equally weighted score) from ALES(Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam) organized by Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (Ölçme, Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi, ÖSYM). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score, determined by the Hacettepe University Senate, in the internationally recognized GRE and GMAT examinations.

3. Applicants are required to score at least 60 in the Foreign Knowledge in Foreign Language Placement Examination (Yabancı Dil Seviye Tespit Sınavı, YDS). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score from other foreign language examinations, held at the national or international level, whose equivalence is approved by ÖSYM.

4. International students' applications are accepted in line within ?Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).

5. Those conditions, which are not included below, are applied in accordance with the related provisions of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education, Instruction and Examination Regulations (Hacettepe Üniversitesi Lisansüst Eğitim, Öğretim ve Sınav Yönetmeliği).

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students in the doctoral program must take courses (including seminar courses) for a total of not less than 90 AKTS and obtain 30 AKTS by passing the doctoral qualifying exam. When the student meets these conditions, he/she earns 120 ECTS by successfully completing the thesis work he/she started. The student who takes a minimum of 240 AKTS from the doctoral program He/she is entitled to receive a Doctorate degree in accordance with the relevant provisions of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

In order to enter the law faculty doctoral program, it is necessary to graduate from a bachelor's degree or a master's degree program with thesis in a science/art branch recommended by the relevant academic department/art board and approved by the institute board.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The teaching aim of the Law Faculty is to ensure that we provide our students with a student centred learning environment which stresses the importance of both theory and practices thus enabling our students to develop a depth of understanding about the law and it?s practical application.Through the acquisition of knowledge and the training of respective competences, the graduates of PhD programme will be prepared to become highly-skilled experts and decision makers in law firms, civil service, private companies and academia.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in a "Course Teaching Plan", which is prepared by the faculty members who teaches that course. The relevant articles of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations apply to the exams and grades of the courses.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

Students in the doctoral program must take at least 8 courses, not less than 24 credits in total, and successfully complete the seminar course, doctoral qualifying exam and thesis work.
