Our faculty was established with the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette dated 05.08.2005 and numbered 2005/9161 and started its research, education and training activities. With the Senate Decision dated 22.03.2006 and numbered 2006-30, the opening proposal was submitted to YÖK and it was decided to be established. Cultural Studies and Media Master's Program dated 02.10.2013 and numbered 4654 Social Sciences Inst. Letter: With the Senate Decision dated 31.07.2013 and numbered 2013-272, the proposals for opening a graduate program by the Institutes were examined at the General Assembly of Higher Education meeting dated 12.09.2013 and it was decided with the letter of the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education dated 23.09.2013 and numbered 51323-7134 that it was appropriate to open this program.
Cultural Studies and Media Master's Degree Program is launched in order to academic interests and technical proficiencies of Hacettepe University, Faculty of Communication?s academic staff in terms of interdisciplinary nature and methodological broad range of the field. The courses of the program aim to provide students specific knowledge of the field, meanwhile they will be able to contribute related literature by means of their distinctive submissions to analyze social, socio-cultural and political tensions that appears due to interactions between individual, media and society and to develop policy-making processes in the sense of global and local spheres.
The students who graduate from this interdiciplinary programme, may continue their academic  studies in social and human sciences and work as an instructor and also can contribute the production of media contents and cultural politics as they can be assigned to consult in private sector or public institutions (ex: Ministry of Culture, TRT). In addition, they can conduct researches within  national and international non-govermental organizations.
As it is well known, along with digital developments, in the field of communication and culture it arised new dimensions with numerous many sub-fields as well as new (theoretical and practical) challenges. In order to active participation of new media users just as traditional media professionals, it can be mentioned of a significant expanding and deepening within academical problem/research areas coupled with diversification of professional majors. In this context, this program specifically focuses on to instruct the scholars that will be able to gain a particular competence of digital media. The program aims to graduate candidates who may take charge in emerging career areas such as social media consulting.
The program aims to acquire theoretical knowledge in the field of cultural studies, to contribute to the existing empirical knowledge in this field in Turkey and to train experts in different practical areas, especially in digital media.
The language of the program is Turkish.
The duration of the program is minimum 2 and maximum 3 years. Graduates of the program acquire the title of expert in the field of cultural studies.

1. Applicants who apply to the program must have completed a four-year Bachelor's Degree with an average of at least 2.80 (two point eighty) over 4.00 (four).
2. Applicants are required to score at least 55 standard points from either one of the quantitative or verbal or equal weight categories of the Academic Staff and Graduate Education Examination (Akademik Personel ve Lisansüstü EÄŸitimine GiriÅŸ Sınavı, ALES) organized by Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (Ölçme, Seçme ve YerleÅŸtirme Merkezi, ÖSYM). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score, determined by the Hacettepe University Senate, in the internationally recognized GRE and GMAT examinations.Â
3. Applicants are required to score at least 60 in the Foreign Knowledge in Foreign Language Placement Examination (Yabancı Dil Seviye Tespit Sınavı, YDS). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent store from other foreign language examinations, held at the national or international level, whose equivalence is approved by the University.
4. International students' applications are accepted in line within "Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (26 November 2016, No:29900).
5. Those conditions, which are not included below, are applied in accordance with the related provisions of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education, Instruction and Examination Regulations (Hacettepe Üniversitesi Lisansüst Eğitim, Öğretim ve Sınav Yönetmeliği).
Special Requirements for the Graduate Programme of Cultural Studies and Media
Applicants should submit,
· at least- one-page letter of intent (Font: Times New Roman, Font Size: 12, 1.5 Line Spacing) explaining the candidate's reasons for pursuing graduate study in Communication Sciences or Cultural Studies and Media, or doctorate study in Communication Sciences
· a curriculum vitae (cv) with photo,
· two letters of reference handed in closed envelopes
to Hacettepe University Faculty of Communication, Department of Communication Sciences with the above documents.
In order to complete M. A. of Cultural Studies and Media Program it is required to take 30 ECTS credit courses in total and to submit and defend a successful master's thesis (60 ECTS). A minimum of 120 ECTS course credit hours is required at the end of these studies together with the elective courses. (60 credits from master's thesis, 30 credits from compulsory courses and 30 credits from elective courses-min.)
To be able to transfer a M.A. degree to M. A. of Cultural Studies and Media at Hacettepe University, it is required to meet the admission terms. For other issues, the related items of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Testing Legislation are valid.

The aim of the H.U. Social Sciences Institute graduate program of Cultural Studies and Media is to have graduates that
The graduates who complete this program, can work as instructors in faculties of communication after continuing their education in PhD degree of relevant fields as well as progress their academic studies in human and social sciences. They might take charge in private sector and state institutions (such as Ministry of Culture, TRT) for the purpose of contributing to the development of media contents and culture policies or consulting. Moreover they might conduct researches within national and international NGO's.

The students who are accepted to the M.A. of Cultural Studies and Media Program, if it is considered necessary, they might take relevant courses from the Scientific Preparation Program which is part of M.A. of Communication Sciences Program. Students are supposed to take Introduction to Cultural Studies course and at least two seminar courses within the Cultural Studies and Media program. All the other courses in the program are selective. In this program 1 ECTS credit is equal to 30 hours of workload.
The methods of evaluation and assesment for each course are defined in “Course Structure Plan” in the Information Package prepared by the course instructor/s. For the exams and grades, related items of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Testing Legislation are applied.
