Hacettepe University Faculty of Denistry hes been founded as "Academy of Dentistry" under affiliation of Medicine and Health Sciences Faculty in 1963. In 1971, “Academy of Dentistry” has been transformed to an independent faculty-“Faculty of Dentistry”. Hacettepe University, hosting Turkey's largest and well-equipped medical and dental faculties and by using this advantage, has been carrying out studies for many years in the common multidisciplinary fields including dentistry and basic medical sciences. Applicants completed the specialist training programme and with a degree of “specialist” are admitted to the Oral Biology PhD programme. PhD education in Oral Biology aims at training academicians and researchers in Oral Biology and to provide these individuals with the expertise necessary to become researchers and academicians in the fields of interdisciplinary oral health related fields. Doctorate program contains courses, proficiency exam, thesis proposal, and thesis study and thesis defense. The duration of education is 4 years. Students must take at least 21 national credits/240 ECTS credits to graduate. The must and elective courses stated in the programme will be given by the faculty members of the Department of Oral Health Sciences, which has a multidiscipliner structure. The elective courses can also be taken from the pool of elective courses in HU SBE. The language of the program is Turkish. The language of the thesis study is the program language; however, it can be done in a different language with the decision of the Administrative Board of the Institute. Graduates can become researchers and academicians who can plan and perform scientific researches by studying the problems related to oral region with multidisciplinary studies in the field of oral biology.

In order to graduate from the Oral Biology Doctorate Programme, the student, who was accepted to the program with the master's degree, must complete total at least 240 ECTS; at least 21 credits and 90 ECTS's with at least seven courses, seminar, phd proposal and thesis work courses, except from “Preparation To Doctoral Proficiency Exam” course, during the Phd study. Student who successfully completes courses and whose academic average is at least 3.00 can take the proficiency exam. Student, who is successful in the proficiency exam and whose thesis proposal is accepted, prepares the thesis under the supervision of the thesis monitoring committee. Student must write his/her results according to the Institute's thesis writing regulations, and present the thesis orally to the jury. The primary mission of the Ph.D. Program in Oral Biology is to train and educate “doctor of sciences in Oral Biology” that have knowledge in basic and clinical fields, are strongly bounded to ethical regulations, capable of performing all treatments in Oral Biology, familiar with developing technology and take role in developing new technologies, analytical, problem-solver, able to reach and share information and open to new developments and have a career in research and education especially in interdisciplinary areas related to Oral Health.
Individuals with a doctorate in oral biology can pursue their academic careers, in various universities or research units abroad.
This doctorate program consists of 8 semesters. Program consists of at least 240 ECTS; at least 30 course ECTS credits in the each of the first 4 semesters and total 120 ECTS credits in the last 4 thesis semesters. Students have to complete the must courses in the first two years (four semesters). The required credit is provided by elective courses. Students may also take courses from other programs not included in the Community Oral Health Programs in order to contribute to their areas of interest and thesis studies. A sutudent who has completed at least 120 ECTS credits, can also take extra elective courses in accordance with the approval of his/her advisor.
The measurement and evaluation methods applied for each course are defined in the “Course Teaching Plan”, which is prepared by the relevant faculty member and included in the course information package. In order to graduate, a student, who successfully completes all the requirements of the PhD program, must fulfill the relevant articles of the H.U. Graduate Education and Examination Regulations (Government newspaper numbered 29900 and dated November 26th, 2016).
