This program is administered by the Graduate School of Science and Engineering. The language of instruction of the program is English. The normal duration of the program is 4 years and it must be completed within a maximum of 6 years.
In the program, theoretical and applied research and development are carried out in the fields of thermal-fluid systems and energy, dynamics, control and mechatronics, solid mechanics and design, materials and manufacturing.
History
The department of Mechanical Engineering at Hacettepe university was founded in 1992. Turkey's first undergraduate automotive engineering program offered by the department admitted its first stream of students in 2005. A Master of Science and PhD programs in Mechanical Engineering commenced in Spring 2009 and Fall 2015, respectively. Our department offers an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering since 2018-2019 academic year.
Quota
The department accepts 8 to 12 students per semester, once in the fall and spring semesters. The number of students to be admitted each semester is announced by the Graduate School of Science and Engineering
Internship
There is no internship requirement during the program.

Applications, admissions, and enrollments follow the rules and provisions of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exams Regulations. Applicants from national/international universities with M.S degrees (with thesis) in Mechanical, Production/Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Aerospace and Automotive Engineering or applicants with M.S. degrees (with thesis) whose qualifications are approved by the Departmental Academic Commitee may apply for addmission. All applicants must have obtained the required scores from ALES or GRE examinations. All applicants must have English language proficiency.
The program including courses and the thesis preparation and defence procedures follow the relavant articles of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exams Regulations.
Credit transfers from equivalent programs follow the rules and provisions of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exams Regulations.
The aim of the program is to educate mechanical engineers who are equipped with world-class research, development and design skills in various areas of Mechanical Engineering and pioneer technological development compatible with national needs, and contribute to the national and international mechanical engineering science and technology through knowledge dissemination.
Our graduates can be employed as academicians in national and international universities and work as researchers in R&D institutions. They can also have careers in private sector and government.

During the PhD qualifying exam semester, the students register for MMÜ 797 Preparation for the Ph.D. Qualifying Exam course. The students whose theses proposals are approved by the Graduate School of Science and Engineering register for MMÜ 700 Special Topics course.
The procedure of assessment and evaluation for each course is defined in the course information package/syllabus which is prepared by the corresponding faculty members. Examinations and grading follow the relavant articles of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exams Regulations.
Requirements for the PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering are:
- Successful completion (at least a B2 grade) of at least 8 courses and a seminar course adding up a total of at least 90 ECTS (24 national credits),
- A minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0,
- Succesfull completion of the doctoral qualifying exam,
- Successful completion and defense of a thesis work of 120 ECTS credits before a jury.
