The Department of Modern Turkic Languages was established in 2012 and has MA and PhD programs. (Currently we have only MA program, soon we expect that our PhD program will be approved by YOK 'The Council of Higher Education').
Our department focuses on researches mainly related to various language topics of Turkic world and train and guide graduate students with the linguistic methods. The department concentrates on phonological, morphological and syntactic structures; sociolinguistic issues, historical developments in Turkic languages (especially Siberian Turkic languages, Turkmen, Chuvash etc.).
The department has strong international connections with Germany (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz), Sweden (Uppsala University) and Hungary (University of Szeged), South Korea (Busan University of Foreign Studies) and China (Minzu University of China).

1. The applicants must study at least the following four year graduate programs:
Modern Turkic languages and literatures,
Turkish Language and Literature
Teacher Education for Turkish Language and Literature
Graduates of Linguistics, Philology, International Relations, History, Folklore etc. can also apply, but they have to attend the scientific preparation program; s. paragraph 8 and 16e. However, as a result of the evaluation of the academic board of the department, the applicants who have necessary knowledge to follow the courses may be exempted from the preparation program.
2. Grade for bachelor degree: To apply for graduate program, Students' GPA must be at least 2.50.
3. Applicants are required to provide minimum 55 standard scores of Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) in any qualification fields or a score equivalent of 55 which is required by Hacettepe University Senate from the GRE and GMAT exams that are recognized internationally.
4. The applicants must have at least 50 points from the Foreign Language Exam (YDS) or equal of this point from other national or international exams equivalence of which are recognized by ÖSYM.
5. International students' applications are accepted in line within “Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).
The foreign students who completed their undergraduate educations in a country where the following languages are spoken as mother tongue or official language can apply the MA program of Modern Turkic Languages and Literatures: German, English, French, Chinese, Arabic, Persian, Russian and Ukrainian.
6. The issues not mentioned above will be applied in accordance with Graduate Education and Examination Regulations of Hacettepe University.
To obtain an MA degree (with thesis) in Modern Turkic Languages and Literatures, students write a thesis in addition to their courseworks. Students with a minimum GPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 are eligible to write a master's thesis. They are required to take a minimum 120 ECTS (24 national credits).

The students who graduated other than Modern Turkic Languages and Literatures, Turkish Language and Literatures, Turkish Language and Literatures Education must attend Preparatory Program.
The students who wants to transfer from other universities should study at least one semester in their home university. For Academic transfer and course equivalence, regulations of Social Science Institute are applied.
Job opportunities for the graduates of the Turkic languages and literatures are very wide. They can find several positions in universities, research centers in Turkey and Central Asia as research scholar, instructor. They can work in state and private sectors as expert of Turkic world.

MA in Turkic Languages and Literatures is a 2 year programme. In order to graduate, students should complete departmental courses equivalent to 28 national credits (120 ECTS) in total and the thesis.
All MA courses are one-semester courses, which may be offered any semester.
