Course objectiveThe aim of the course is to analyze the concepts language and culture and their interrelationship in several linguistic and cultural contexts. To go through the relevant theories and research in the literature with an emphasis on the linguistic investigation of the ways of communication among individauls from different cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds. Moreover, this course aims at an understanding of Deafness as a cultural and linguistic variable.  
Learning outcomes
  1. By the end of the course, the students will be able to relate the processes of communication with concepts such as social reality, culture and identity, develop and understanding of the effects of differences and similarities on linguistic comprehension and expressions in the light of contemporary theories and practices.
  2. Besides, they will be able to evaluate Deaf community as a cultural and linguistic group. Moreover, they will be able to take into consideration the Deaf and speaking communities in terms of intercultural communication.
Course ContentThis course covers discussions on culture, language and communication and their interelationships in various linguistic and cultural contexts. Moreover, the ways of communication among individuals having different cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds will be investigated with a linguistic perspective.
