Course objectiveThe main aim of this course is to make students understand the effects of developments in the field of local governments during the European Union (EU) accession process of Turkey in terms of theoretical framework and practical cases; and to help them analyze local governments in EU countries and Turkey through comparative studies. 
Learning outcomes
  1. Learns developments in EU administrative space and their effects on local governments.
  2. Learn the EU's agreements, regulations and organizations on sub-national governments.
  3. Learns current local government models in EU countries.
  4. Understands similar and different aspects of local governments in EU countries and Turkey through comparing them.
  5. Follows the effects of EU decentralisation policy in general and the process of decentralisation in Turkey in particular.

- Main Traditions of Local Governments in Europe

- Regulations related with local governments in EU treaties and conventions

- Local government reform in Turkey under the EU effect
