Course objective | The purpose of the course is to study of the neurologic basis for speech and language behavior, etiology, symptomology, assessments, and management of aphasia. | |||||

Course Content | 1. Name the structures and processes of the central nervous system involved in normal and impaired adult language. Be able to categorize the symptoms of impairments. 2. Define, describe, and classify adult receptive and expressive language impairments and related disturbances associated with cerebral insult. 3. Describe appropriate assessment principles and methods for different types of aphasia and select proper tests for evaluation and differential diagnosis. Be able to interpret the data ,make appropriate referrals to other disciplines. 4. Discuss varied therapeutic principles and approaches, the efficacy of treatment, and related ethical issues. 5. Develop treatment goals and select/design appropriate intervention tasks for specific types of aphasia. 6. Describe social and psychological aspects of communication in adult aphasia and identify related methods of assessment and intervention, with reference to the cultural and linguistic background of the patient. 7.
