Course objectiveThis course aims to explore the social and political transformations, effects and consequences of transformations at the last 150 years in Turkey thematically and chronologically. 
Learning outcomes
  1. Evaluate the causes of social and political changes in Turkish history.
  2. Interpret the impacts of modernization as a determinative factor about social and political change.
  3. Analyze the political and social consequences of transformations.
  4. Associate the causes and effects of political and social change.
Course ContentThis course involves the modernization and westernization of Turkey, regime change, democratization, urbanization and migration, coup d'états and capitalism as well as their effects on identity, political economy, class structure, gender, culture, popular culture and art.
