Course objectiveThis course aims to introduce the students to the alphabet systems used in Kokturk and Uygur periods; to analyze the peculiarities of the scripts; to utilize paleographical indications for establishing the date they were written; compare the orthography between Ancient Turkish and the Karahanli script written in Arabic; to establish spelling traditions until the Middle Ages. 
Learning outcomes
  1. By the end of this course the student will: -Become acquainted with the alphabet systems of Uyghur and Kokturk periods -Analyze their spelling. -Familiarize the students with utilizing paleography to date the texts. - Compare the orthography between Ancient Turkish and the Karahanli script written in Arabic -Discuss spelling traditions until the Middle Ages.
