Course objectiveTo lead students into an examination of the historical bases, characteristics, and changes that took place over time within the administrative and political thought processes in the Ottoman Empire.  
Learning outcomes
  1. By the end of this course the student, evaluates and discuss the historical bases of the administrative and political thought proesses of the Ottoman Empire;
  2. differentiates between the fundamental characteristics of Ottoman political thought;
  3. analyzes the formative process and unique features of official Ottoman ideology;
  4. evaluates the sources of political thought processes from an historical perspective; and
  5. evaluate show the changes and transformations that occurred over time at Ottoman state and societal levels were reflected on political thought processes.
Course ContentThe course will set out from a discussion of the historical bases of the administrative and political thought processes within the Ottoman state, and will then advance to a discussion of the formation process and features of the state's official ideology, along with the role of religion within this process. The final discussions will focus on the changes and transformations that occurred over time within the empire and how these changes were reflected in political conceptualizations.
