Course objectiveTo discuss and analyse the questions and problematiques in historiography relating to the emergence period of the Ottoman state. 
Learning outcomes
  1. In the end of this course; Knows the the questions and problematiques in historiography relating to the emergence period of the Ottoman state,
  2. Recognises the nature of the sources for the period of foundation,
  3. Explains the identity and positions of the founders of the state,
  4. Comprehends the nature and relationships of the principality with neigbouring policies,
  5. Analyses various dimensions of the process of transition from beylik to state.
Course ContentThe foundation process of the Ottoman states, the dynamics behind its development and the debate over the nature and development of the beylik vis a vis other Anatolian principalities in the light of primary sources and modern studies.
