Course objectiveThe aim of the course is to enable students to have an understanding of the concept of social medicine and its evolvement throughout the history of public health, and to provide students with the essential knowledge on the multilevel determinants of health, social causes and consequences of health and disease, health inequalities, social diseases and social approaches to health promotion and disease prevention. 
Learning outcomes
  1. At the end of this course, student will be able to: Explain the concept of social medicine.
  2. Describe the evolvement of social medicine throughout the history of public health.
  3. Describe social construction of health.
  4. Discuss social causes and consequences of health and disease at different levels.
  5. Explain the concepts of health inequalities and inequities.
  6. Define the concept of social disease.
  7. List health effects of stigma and discrimination.
  8. Explain social approaches in disease prevention and health promotion. Explain community participation in health services.
