Course objectiveThe aim of this course is to study speech processes, to describe how speech sounds are produced, transmitted and perceived and to study systems and patterns of sounds in particular languages, with a specific reference to Turkish and English.  
Learning outcomes
  1. At the end of the semester the students will:
  2. Recognise the speech organs,
  3. Define the speech organs,
  4. Recognise, define, list and classify short, long, diphthong, triphthong vowels and consonants in English,
  5. Recognise the sounds of short, long, diphthong, triphthong vowels and consonants within a word in English,
  6. Write the phonemic and phonetic transcription of English words by using the International Phonetic Alphabet,
  7. Recognize segmental and suprasegmental features and sound processes in Turkish.
