Course objectiveThe aim of this course is to ?Understand the basic arguments and perspectives of different theories and concepts related to feminism and gender, ?Analyse, discuss and interpret similarities and differences between theories, ?Find ways of analysing gender in media presentations, ?Study media content with content analysis  
Learning outcomes
  1. At the end of this course students ?Explain media presentations within a feminist perspective; ?Analyse gender representations in media presentations ?Assess media presentations within the framework of ideological apparatus ?Discuss and criticise the hegemony created by repsoduction of patriarchal culture through media presentations.
Course ContentFemale/male images in media representations are discussed and through these images paradigms related to hegemony recreated by the patriarchal culture is studied within the context of cultural studies focused on media and within the framework of gender discrimination and feminist concepts and theories, through reading popular narratives such as women?s magazines, soap operas, internet texts, photographs, commercials and novels.
