Course objective | This course is designed to shed light on the themes and debates specific to Turkish modernization through an analysis of a series of Turkish poetry, short stories and novels from the Tanzimat Era down to the present. | |||||

Course Content | This course first provides a historical survey of the Turkish literature from the Tanzimat Era down to the present. The historical review is followed by a reading of the works by the following figures: Namık Kemal, Fatma Aliye, Ömer Seyfettin, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Halide Edip Adıvar, Nazım Hikmet, Peyami Safa, Yaşar Kemal and Oğuz Atay. | |||||
