Course objectiveThe course intend to comprehend memoirs /and diaries which were written after and during the Turkish National Struggle and their historical usage as a source, to evaluate and compare with other sources of history of the same period. 
Learning outcomes
  1. 1. Knows the difference between diary, memoir and biography.
  2. 2. Correctly uses memoirs as a major source of historiography.
  3. 3. Knows the memoirs of the late Ottoman Empire, World War I and the National Struggle periods.
  4. 4. Evaluates the memoirs written in the same period comparatively.
Course ContentIntroduction to historical documents, it's usage in the historical researches. Examination of memoires in terms of differences and similarities among diary, memory and auto-biography. The use of memoirs as a source of history and it's advantages and disadvantages. Introducing the memoirs of people who joined National Struggle and lived this period. Analysis of memoirs / diaries, as literary genre by style and use of language-meaning points and comparatively.
