D.1. General Information about Program

Back

The graduate program of Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine Department has started its activities within Hacettepe University-Institute of Science and Technology since 2007-2008 academic year. Nanotechnology and nanomedicine is one of the hottest and most intensively studied research areas of today. The interdisciplinary graduate program of the Department of Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine, which was implemented by combining the infrastructure of Hacettepe University in the fields of medicine and health sciences, science and engineering, continues its education-training and research-development activities with the support of faculty members and infrastructure from five different faculties (Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Pharmacy). The first two semesters of the master's program consist of compulsory and elective courses, while the last two semesters are devoted to master's thesis work. Students take courses related to the field of their choice during their graduate education and carry out their thesis studies under the guidance of a faculty member related to the subject. The language of instruction of the program is Turkish.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Back

The master's program consists of a course, thesis proposal, thesis study and thesis defense exam in accordance with the provisions of the relevant article of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations (//www.fenbilimleri.hacettepe.edu.tr/26112016yonetmelik.pdf). In order to graduate from the program, a total of 120 ECTS courses must be taken, including 60 credits of course load and 60 credits of thesis work according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). For graduation from the program, a minimum of 21 national credits (60 ECTS) must be taken, excluding the Special Topics course. 1 ECTS credit is equivalent to 30 hours of workload.

Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine Master's program students are required to code the compulsory NNT 601 Nanoscience and Technology, NNT 619 Seminar, NNT 620 Current Topics in Nanotechnology courses during the course periods with the supervision of the Head of the Department and the approval of the course advisors. Students can take the courses in the determined course program, and if deemed necessary by their advisors, they can also complete credits by taking undergraduate and graduate courses opened in the relevant departments of the university or other universities (The total credit of out-of-field elective courses cannot be more than 1/3 of the total course credits taken by the student). Some of the courses to be taken by graduate students, which are approved and approved by the Head of the Department, can be selected from undergraduate courses, provided that they have not been taken during undergraduate education. The program courses to be offered each semester are determined by the Academic Board of the Department.

Upon successful completion of the credit courses and the seminar course, the student is required to code NNT 600 Special Topics and prepare a thesis under the supervision of his/her advisor. The thesis advisor (co-advisor, if any) is recommended by the Department and approved and appointed by the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Board of Directors. Thesis topic proposals are finalized by submitting them to the approval of the Academic Board of the Department. The thesis topic proposal approved by the Department is notified to the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences. The entire program, including the writing and defense of the thesis, must be completed within the period specified in the provisions of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations. Students who complete their programs are awarded a Master's degree in Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine.

There is no internship requirement for graduation.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Back

Graduate courses that a student has taken from domestic/foreign higher education institutions in the last five years before enrolling in the institute, including graduate courses taken as a special student, can be transferred to the program in which the student is enrolled with the opinion of the advisor, the recommendation of the academic department board and the decision of the institute board of directors. However, it cannot exceed 50% of the total credit amount in the program in which the student is enrolled. (//www.fenbilimleri.hacettepe.edu.tr/26112016yonetmelik.pdf)

D.7. Goals and Objectives
