D.1. General Information about Program


With the statutory decree no: 41,issued in 1982 and the Law no: 2809, replacing that in 1983, Ankara State Conservatory was taken to the scope of Y√ĖK (HEI) (within Hacettepe University) with all higher education institutions. Within the university process, proficiency in art programs towards training instructor was opened as from 2005.

In order to be admitted to this program, graduation from State Conservatory or equivalent schools is requested.

For international students, the terms established, aimed at acceptance of student from abroad by Hacettepe University are valid. (

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations


Sum of the lowest national credit to graduate from the Proficiency in Art Program of Composition is 24, sum of ECTS credit is also 240.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning


In recognition of prior learning, the conditions defined in the relevant articles of the Directive for Graduate Education-Training and Examination at Hacettepe University are applicable.

D.7. Goals and Objectives


Purpose of master's degree in Composition Art Branch is to train composers and instructors open to innovations and developments, whose aesthetic admiration level is high, respected, visionary, participatory, contributing to related improvements via the studies they conduct in scientific, technological, visual and audial areas, monitors the development in their field closely, internalize art and science ethics, equipped with basic knowledge, skill and attitudes to take charge in music and music education institutions.

The graduates of this program can work as academician in higher education institutions or as instructor in the art institutions of private sector as well as continuing their composition life individually.

D.14. Profile of the Programme


In this program, 16 national credits mandatory course, 14 national credits elective courses including KOM 700 Special Subjects, KOM 701-702 Composition I- II, KOM 721-722 Method Analysis I –II, YET 790 Preparation for the Exam of Proficiency at Art are given. The student is obligatory to take the minimum 24 national credits that are required for graduation and complete the program. Totally 30 local credits courses are available in the Program of Proficiency at art in the Art Branch of Composition. As the elective courses can be taken from the Art Branch of Composition and Orchestra Conducting, they can be taken from the Conservatory and other departments of the university and common pool of the university.

Measurement and evaluation methods applied for each course are defined under the article titled “Evaluation System” in the “Course Information Package” prepared by the relevant instructor. With regard to exams and course grades, the relevant articles of the Directive for Graduate Education-Training and Examination at Hacettepe University are applicable (

D.16. Graduation Requirements


  1. Requirements for Graduating from the Program
In order to graduate from this program, student has to fulfil one of the following conditions along with the thesis prepared and achieve field courses and seminar course providing not to have taken less than 24 national credits and 120 ECTS credits as well as fulfilling the graduation requirements defined in the relevant article of the Directive for Graduate Education-Training and Examination at Hacettepe University. 

        A) Student also submits the Work Art Report about all works written by him/her within the     scope of the composition courses included in Proficiency in Art Program of Composition in addition to the partition prepared in computer environment of the performing Works of at least 30 minutes (opera, ballet, operetta) and the records of these if any and the Works like symphony, concerto etc. of minimum 30 minutes, written for exit exam in conjunction with his/her all Works written within the scope of composition courses included in proficiency in art program to Jury.

      B) In the event that student intends to exit exam with his/her theoretical studies, he/she submits thesis of proficiency in art to be written on theory area (solfege, dictation, deciphering, harmony, counterpoint, form knowledge) to Jury.

Following defense, assuming successful is needed.
