D.1. General Information about Program

Institute of neurological sciences and Psychiatry is founded under Hacettepe University structure complying by the law no. 41. Issued on 07.20.1982 and grants Msc and PhD degrees complying the law 2547 section 3/f.

Advanced Neurological Sciences PhD program is opened in order to train scientist who can do scientific research and give education at the universal level. Advanced Neurological Sciences PhD program provides education since the 1986-1987 academic year.

Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry and Ophthalmology  specialists who earned their title according to regulations for specialty in medicine are accepted to the PhD program

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

PhD program consists of courses, thesis proposal, thesis defense examination.

Students admitted to the PhD program with a master's degree must successfully complete course load of 21 credits and according to the European Credit Transfer System students must successfully complete course load of 120 credits and 120 credits of thesis study.

For the student to graduate, academic avarage of at least 3 over 4, as well as being successful in the dissertation exam are required.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The relevant regulation rules apply to the recognition of the education received by a student who previously studied at a higher education institution in Turkey or abroad;

Academic recognition of the education of these students who studied for a certain period of time in another higher education institution is determined by the decision of the academic board.

Program objectives: Training and graduating PhD?s who will be able to give education and make scientific research at the universal level in the field of advanced neurological sciences.

Learning objectives: PhD student will be able to follow up to date scientific information, make a scientific research and examine scientific researches and will learn to have characteristics of high educational level to train well qualified scientists.

The majority of the students who graduated from the program serve as faculty members in public universities, some serve as faculty members in private universities and some of them have scientific positions at universities abroad.

There are 5 obligatory and 14 elective courses in the program. PhD students can take elective courses from other PhD programs, university course pool and Master of science without thesis program.

Neuroscience PhD students will have an international level education after having obligatory and elective courses throughout 3 semesters.

PhD students will be able to determine and solve a scientific problem with original ideas and methods in the period of the thesis.
