D.1. General Information about Program

The Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Letters MA program offers a two years mainstream education To get an MA degree in Archaeology, it is required to complete 120 ECTS. The language of instruction is Turkish.

The main aim of the MA program is to train individuals who are instructed to become professionals in a particular area in archaeology, who are well-equipped in this profession, have the ability to use modern technologies and to use their expertise in research, education and other services in archaeology for the benefit of the society within the boundary of universal values. Another important task of the program is to train competent archaeologists who have the ability to uncover, protect and exhibit unique cultural heritage of our country with modern and scientific methods.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. To enter the Master program of department of Archaeology, candidates should graduate from one of the undergraduate program of Prehistory, Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology, Classical Archaeology, History, History of Art, Anthropology, Ancient Languages and Cultures, Ancient History, Architecture, Restoration and Conservation, Archaeometry departments.

2. The candidates have minimum 2,50 general academic average out of 4,00 of an undergraduate program.

3. Candidates must receive minimum 55 standard score in one of the quantitative, verbal or equally-weighted scores from Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) which has been done by Evaluation, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) or international exams such as GRE and GMAT whose equivalence are approved by the Hacettepe University Senate.

4. Candidates must receive minimum 55 score from Foreign Language Exam (YDS) or from one of the international or national exams whose equivalence and validity are approved by ÖSYM.

5. International students' applications are accepted in line within “Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).

6. Suitable candidates have to be successful in written and oral exam which includes archaeological knowledge, research methods and current development and perspectives in archaeology.

7. The provisions which are not covered above will be implemented in accordance with the relevant provisions of Hacettepe University's Regulations on Graduate Education and Examination.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To get an MA degree in Archaeology, it is required to complete 120 ECTS credits and have at least 2,50 general academic avarege out of 4,00.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who are accepted to register in the MA Program are who completed BA education or get an equivalent education abroad.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The MA program is to train high level of archaeologists who are sensible to humanity, society and moral values; respectful to themselves and around; qualified in their profession; has a broad vision, willing to life-long learning; supportive of scientific way of thinking; effective users of basic and up to date information in archaeology; acting in accordance with social, scientific and technical values to collect archaeological data; interpretation and publicizing; highly skilled in legislation, material and curatorial knowledge; open to different thoughts and cultures; able to think creatively and critically.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Department of Archaeology MA Program graduates can work as a high level of expertised archaeologist in; academic institutions, under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Monuments and Museums, state and private museums, Provincial Protection Committee and municipalities.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Letters MA program offers a two year mainstream education; two semester of coursework, two semester for a dissertation. To get an MA degree in Archaeology, it is required to complete 120 ECTS. The language of instruction is Turkish.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Testing and evaluation methods implemented in the courses and thesis are defined in the “course instructional plan” which is in the information package. The relevant items in the Examination Regulations of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education are used for the exams and grades.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

Students are required to take courses provided by the department in return for 120 ECTS credits and to be successful; have a general academic average of 2.50 out of 4.00 and successfuly complete the MA thessis for graduation.
