D.1. General Information about Program

In the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, graduate education at the doctoral level in the field of Classical Turkish Literature started in 1969 under the Turkish Literature Program and continued as the Classical Turkish Literature Program after 1975.

The main purpose of the Classical Turkish Literature Doctorate Program is to train scientists who have the ability to read texts related to the field from primary sources, to interpret them in the light of different theories and disciplines, to carry out and conclude a research independently, and to contribute to the field with original thoughts and research. The program includes courses aimed at achieving these goals.     

The language of instruction of the program is Turkish, and students must be proficient in a foreign language to enable them to follow the relevant literature and use it in oral and written communication.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. Graduated from the Departments of Turkish Language and Literature, Turkish Language and Literature Teaching, Arabic Language and Literature, Persian Language and Literature of the universities or related departments of universities abroad whose equivalence is approved by YÖK (Council of Higher Education),

2. To have a master's degree in the field of Classical Turkish Literature or in one of the above-mentioned programs,

3. Required to have at least 60 standart points on verbal point type of Academic Staff and Graduate Education Examination (ALES) that is held by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) or to have a score equal to 60 on internationally accepted GRE and GMAT that is determined by the Senate of Hacettepe University,

4. Required to have at least 60 in the Foreign Knowledge in Foreign Language Placement Examination (Yabancı Dil Seviye Tespit Sınavı, YDS). Alternatively, applicants are required to submit an equivalent score from other foreign language examinations, held at the national or international level, whose equivalence is approved by ÖSYM

5. For international students, to meet the conditions stated in the Hacettepe University Senate's Principles Regarding the Application and Acceptance Conditions of Foreign Candidates for Hacettepe University Graduate Education.

For matters not mentioned above, the relevant provisions of Hacettepe University Postgraduate Education and Examination Regulations are taken as basis.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student who completes the Classical Turkish Literature Doctorate Program is entitled to receive the Classical Turkish Literature Doctorate Diploma.

The requirements for a doctoral degree in Classical Turkish Literature are coursework, proficiency exam, thesis proposal, thesis work and thesis defense exam. In order to successfully complete the program, it is necessary to take at least 24 national credits (120 ECTS) courses and complete 240 ECTS together with the thesis work. Students who successfully complete their courses and have an academic average of at least 3.00 take the doctoral proficiency exam. The student who is successful in the doctoral qualifying exam prepares the doctoral thesis under the supervision of the thesis monitoring committee and presents it to the jury.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Graduates who meet the prerequisites for applying to the Classical Turkish Literature Doctorate Program, have a Master's degree and are successful in the program entrance exam can continue. However, all students who have completed their undergraduate education in a field other than Turkish Language and Literature, and those who have completed their education in the field of Turkish Language and Literature, but who are determined by the interview jury to need to develop or support their academic background, with the recommendation of the interview jury and the approval of the Head of the Department, Hacettepe University Graduate School of Social Sciences According to the relevant article of the Education-Training Regulation, the Scientific Preparation Program is applied.

Students who want to be included in the program with lateral transfer must have studied at least one semester at the university or in the graduate programs of other higher education institutions. In order for the applications to be accepted; there must be a quota for students in the department, the student must meet the registration admission requirements and have received the success grades specified in the relevant article of the Hacettepe University Institute of Social Sciences Graduate Education Regulations from each of the courses taken after at least one semester of graduate education.

Eski Türk Edebiyatı Doktora Programının amacı; alanla ilgili metinleri asli kaynaklardan okuyabilme, farklı kuramlar ve disiplinler ışığında yorumlayabilme becerilerine ve bir araştırmayı bağımsız olarak yürütebilme ve sonuçlandırma yetkinliğine sahip, alanına özgün düşünceler ve araştırmalar ile katkı sağlayan bilim insanları yetiştirmektir. 

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

A student who completes the Classical Turkish Literature Doctorate Program gains the title of "doctor". Graduates can work as research assistants, Turkish language instructors at universities or as specialists in different fields, both in the private sector and in government institutions.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Former Classical Turkish Literature Doctorate Program consists of compulsory and elective courses and thesis work, provided that a total of not less than 24 national credits. If students want, they can take elective courses from other programs outside their field, provided that they do not exceed two courses and complete the minimum ECTS. Students who are eligible to enroll in the program must complete a total of 240 ECTS and take at least 24 national credits (120 ECTS) throughout their education. In addition, those who have not taken the Scientific Research and Publication Ethics course before are required to take the course in the Master's Program.

Students who have successfully completed the courses of the program and whose academic average is at least 3.00 take the doctoral qualifying exam. The student who successfully completes the doctoral qualifying examination submits his/her thesis proposal. The student whose thesis proposal is accepted prepares his/her doctoral thesis under the supervision of the thesis monitoring committee.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment and grading criteria (mid terms, homework, final exams, etc.) and examination regulations for each course and their percentages are defined under the title of ?Assessment Methods? in the program's course Information pack. Final exams are carried out on certain dates determined by the university and at certain times and places announced by the department. Students' final semester grades are determined by the instructor offering the course and are based on the students' mid-term and final grades, the coursework they did during the term and their attendance record.

Regarding exams and course grades, the relevant articles of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and Exam Regulations are applied.

In order to successfully complete the program, students must take and pass all the required courses in their program and earn a minimum of 120 ECTS credits (24 national credits) for coursework and thesis work.

Students are required to take at least 24 national credits (120 ECTS) along with the compulsory courses, complete 240 ECTS with the thesis work, and the doctoral thesis they have prepared must be found successful by the jury.
