D.1. General Information about Program

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration was founded in 1982 under the name of Public Administration and started education in 1983. Doctor of Philosophy program started in 1989 and it serves under the Social Sciences Institute. Program language is Turkish.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. Those having a master's degree in Social Science can apply for the program.

2. Applicants who apply to the program must have a master degree and minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3,00 over 4,00.

3. Applicants must score at least 65 standard points (equally-weighted) from Academic Staff and Graduate Education Examination (ALES), that is held by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), or must have an equivalent score approved by the Hacettepe University Senate, from the internationally accepted GRE and GMAT examinations.

4. Applicants must have obtained at least 70 points from Foreign Language Exam (YDS) or an equivalent score from other language exams approved by Hacettepe University Senate.

5. International students' applications are accepted in line within “Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).

6. Those conditions, which are not included, are applied in accordance with the related provisions of the Hacettepe University Graduate Education, Instruction and Examination Regulations (Hacettepe Üniversitesi Lisansüst Eğitim, Öğretim ve Sınav Yönetmeliği).

7. With the suggestion of the graduate admission committee of the department, the applicants may be required to attend one-year preparatory program or take some courses from bachelor's, preparatory or graduate programs.

8. Applicants must provide 1-2 page statement of purpose and two letters of recommendation.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To graduate from the program, students must complete 10 courses (30 national credits / 90 ECTS), pass the Ph.D. Qualifying Exam (30 ECTS), and complete the dissertation (120 ECTS). In addition to this, students should meet the other conditions specified in the Hacettepe University Regulation on Graduate Training, Education, and Examination.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Students should have a master's diploma in order to apply for the program. Department recognizes the previously taken courses in another institution and exempts them from graduation credit, if they meet the standards specified in the Hacettepe University Regulation on Graduate Training, Education, and Examination.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The aim of the programme is to provide student with the advanced theoretical knowledge and skill in the field in order to conduct scientific research independently, to lead scientific research teams, and finally to contribute national and international scientific literature.

They can work as specialists, and managers in public and private organizations, and they have an opportunity for an academic career.

There are 4 compulsory and 6 elective courses in the program. Therefore, 63 % of courses is elective.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

These conditions are specified in the Hacettepe University Regulation on Graduate Training, Education, and Examination. Courses are theoretical, one-semester courses, and there are no prerequisites.

In order to graduate, students must complete 4 compulsory and 6 elective courses (30 national credits / 90 ECTS), pass the Ph.D. Qualifying Exam (30 ECTS), and complete the dissertation (120 ECTS).
