D.1. General Information about Program

Anthropology Department, being one of the first founded division at the university, have an important role in scientific field since 1972. The Biological Anthropology Laboratory at the department with its equipments and supplies and rich human skeletal collection dated to different historic periods of Anatolia offers an elusive study opportunity to students and researchers.

The Doctorate Program at the Department of Anthropology at the Institude of Social Science offers a for-year formal education. The language of instruction is Turkish.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

1. Candidates who are accepted to register in the Anthropology doctorate program should have diplomas from a graduate program or get an equivalent education abroad whose equivalence are approved by the relevant institutions,

2. Receive minimum 70 standard score in one of the quantitative, verbal or equally-weighted scores from Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) or international exams such as GRE and GMAT whose equivalence are approved by the Hacettepe University Senate,

3. Receive minimum 60 score from Foreign Language Exam (YDS) or from one of the international exams whose equivalence are approved by the University Senate.

4. Candidates who fulfill the basic requirements will enter the written and oral exams to determine the level and currency of their knowledge. Among the candidates who are succed in the exams will be selected respect to the declared quota.

5. Examination Regulation of Hacettepe University Graduate Education is used for the conditions which are not mentioned above.

6. International students' applications are accepted in line within “Hacettepe University Graduate Programme and Exam Regulation" in Official Gazette (29 November 2016, No:29900).

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To get a doctorate degree in Anthropology, it is required to complete 8 courses and 24 national credits (90 ECTS), have at least 3,00 general academic avarege out of 4,00, succeeding PhD proficiency exam (30 ECTS) and total 120 ECTS from Special Subject (Thesis) courses for a thesis study and succeed in it. D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Students who are accepted to register in the Anthropology doctorate program should have diplomas from a graduate program or get an equivalent education abroad whose equivalence are approved by the relevant institutions; received sufficent score of ALES and any foreign language or international exams whose equivalence are approved by the relevant institutions. The relevant articles in the Examination Regulation of Hacettepe University Graduate Education are used for the lateral transfer, acceptance of special students and foreign students.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The Anthropology doctorate program is a program which examine, search and evaluate the cultures, populations and human beings holistically with regards to biologic and cultural diversity of them. In this scope program aim to raise scientists who are sensible to humanity, society and moral values; respectful to themselves and around; qualified in their profession; in pursuit of life-long learning; supportive of scientific way of thinking; open to different thoughts and cultures, able to think creatively and critically. The Anthropology doctorate program is also target to develop accumulation of knowledge in the field; provide skill to do research independetly; interpret the scientific data and knowledge by deep point of wiev; gain necessery abilty to reach proper synthesis; gain ability to do authentic and creative research.

Graduates of Anthropology Doctorate Program can work as a lecturer or academic member at universities; as a specialist at public and private institutions and organizations, and in the relevant departments of Ministries.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Anthropology Doctorate Program consists of 8 terms. Teaching Program consists of 8 courses. All the provided courses are at elective status. Students can take elective courses from other departments by approval of the advisor and the head of department. Students who completed the courses take proficiency exam (30 ECTS) in the following six month after completing the courses, and then the successful students present thesis proposal. Students whose proposal are accepted obtain right to prepare the thesis. In the Anthropology Doctorate Program one ECTS is equal to 25 hours of work load.

Testing and evaluation methods implemented in the courses are defined in the “course instructional plan” which takes place in the information package. The relevant articles in the Examination Regulation of Hacettepe University Graduate Education are used for the exams and final grades.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

Students are required to take the provided courses in return for 24 national credits and succeed in them; have a general academic average of 3.00 out of 4.00; succeeding in PhD proficiency exam, submit a thesis and succeed in it, to graduate from the program. The relevant articles of the Hacettepe University Graduate Study, Education and Examination Regulations are used for graduation and getting certificate.
