D.1. General Information about Program

Department of Child Development has been established with the aim of training Child Development Specialists who serve the society, educators and children aged between 0-18 along with improving supportive programs for all developmental stages (mental, language, motor, self care, social and emotional) of normal children, children with special needs, children under protection (children living in normal/special care settings, working, immigrant and delinquent children) and children in hospital. 

 Our graduates with the title of "Child Educationalist" diagnose children developmentally and according to that diagnosis, they provide early intervention programs with an eclectical approach and provide consultancy for families.  Child educationalists also take necessary precautions (from the child's, parents' and the teacher's point of vew) to support the development of children who show developmental deviations. Also similarly in special education field, child educationalists diagnose handicapped children developmentally; and in the frame of a multidisciplinary approach(incorporating related professionals when necessary), take precautions for the child and the family.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

For the doctoral program, candidates are required to have completed the graduate program of Child Development, Institute of Health Sciences, Hacettepe University; or another relevant graduate program about medical, health or educational sciences. Acceptance is under the authority of the department?s committee.  Canditades who have passed  required exams (ALES, language proficiency and the interview exam) are accepted to Child Development and Education doctoral program.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The students at Child Development and Education master program have to get 3.00 point over 4.00 graduate score and also accomplish a thesis to graduate from this program. Candidates for the Child Development and Education graduate programs who have passed required exams (ALES, language proficiency and the interview exam) are supposed to prepare their thesis of their subjects in addition to taking courses of totally 30 credits.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The recognition of previous courses in Child Development and Education Program is within the regulations of the Institute of Health Sciences. This process includes the recognition of courses taken as a special student, equivalence of courses taken from another program and the recognition of credits taken while transmitting from one program to another.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The main purpose of the Child Development and Education doctoral program is to develop projects for children, families, teachers and society in order to support the development of normal children and also children with special needs. Further, the program aims to put these projects into practice as beneficially as possible for the child and the family.

D.12. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates have the opportunity to work as child development specialists, project coordinators, managers of preschools, and academic personnel in universities. Various positions are also available in the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Social Services and Child Protection Agency, Prime Ministry Institution of Family Research, General Directorate of Special Education Guidance and Counselling Services, National Ministry of Education, Ministry of Family and Social Politics, UNICEF, ILO, and other private and public special education centres. Furthermore, they play important roles in preparing and managing TV programs, print and visual media geared towards children and youth as well as in producing and designing pedagogic toys.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

Graduate program of Child Development and Education includes compulsory courses in addition to elective courses about the profession of Child Development. The graduate student is supposed to take courses of totally 240 ECTS. 4% of this graduate program  consists of compulsory courses while 96% consists of elective courses.
