D.1. General Information about Program

The department of ceramics, which was founded in 1983/84, provides Master's and PhD programs at the graduate level. The overall purpose of graduate programs is to provide the students with deeper knowledge on fields of interest, and with the skill and consciousness of producing effective work, in addition with the skill of evaluating contemporary art and thinking.

? Students holding a Bachelor?s or Master?s degree can apply to the PhD program.
? ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam) is not required.
? YDS 55; or an equivalent TOEFL ? IELTS grade.

In the case of transferring students who have previously studied in a higher education institution in Turkey or abroad, the regulations of undergraduate education are followed.

The purpose of the program is to educate the students as future artists who comprehend that art is one of the highest level activities belonging to humanbeings, by creating a suitable environment in which they can gain knowledge and develop skills related to ceramics.

The department of ceramics updates the curriculum in the light of technological developments and artistic transformations. This way, our students gain knowledge on all subjects related to ceramics and skills necessary for production in both private and commercial studios; and they can work as designers and freelance artists after graduation.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

1. PhD students have to satisfy the following conditions within the determined time of the program, with the guidance of an advisor. The program consists of 24 credits. Students have to complete %60 of these credits from applied courses.
2. Graduation work: Students who are successful at the Proficiency in Art exam can start their graduation works. Graduation work can be done in two stages. Students have to submit proposals which define the purpose, motivations, method, and expectations of the graduation work firstly to the advisor, and secondly to the head of the department. Students whose proposals are approved can start working.
3. Graduation work is an original work produced by students. Students completing the work prepare an exhibition and submit a copy of the supporting research report (Proficiency in Art Report), which is in accordance with the Hacettepe University Institute of Social Sciences Graduate Thesis and Report Writing Instructions, to the members of the jury 15 days before the determined date of oral defense. Students whose works are found successful submit a copy of the written project to the related department, in order for the copy to be sent to the Institute of Social Sciences. Students who successfully satisfy all the conditions of graduation earn the Diploma of Proficiency in Art.

D.15. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Testing and evaluation methods implemented in the courses are defined in the “course instructional plan” which takes place in the information package of every course. The relevant articles in the Examination Regulation of Hacettepe University Postgraduate Education are used for the exams and final grades.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

To be graduated from Ceramics Division students are required to take provided courses in return for 240 ECTS credits (24 national credits) and succeed in them; and to have at least 3,00 GPA out of 4
