D.1. General Information about Program

The programme operated under Painting Division on Social Sciences Institute before moving under the Institute of Fine Arts on December 1st, 2012.

The doctorate program courses are carried out in the graduate workshop, mural painting workshop, printmaking workshops, drawing workshop, reading room and theoretical classroom within the painting department. The language of the programme is Turkish.

Our students and graduates participate in prestigious exhibitions in national and international art platform, and also partake in the organization of various world renowned exhibitions. Some of our graduates also serve as founding faculty members of new universities in our country.

D.4. Provisions for Registration

The candidates are required to have a masters degree for the doctorate program. The requirements mentioned in the Hacettepe University Regulations for Graduate Education must also be met.  

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To graduate this program, the students must meet the requirements mentioned in the Regulations on Graduate Education, must have completed the compulsory courses required by the programme, completed their artistic work, artwork report and fulfilled the credit requirements of the Regulations on Graduate Education.

According to the regulations, the students with master's degree need to complete courses with at least 21 credits in national system, and an artistic work. According to the European Credit Transfer System this program consists of 240 ECTS credits total, with 120 ECTS credits of courses and 120 ECTS credits of artistic work.

D.6. Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

The recognition and accreditation of students who come to our university through national or international programmes such as Erasmus programme, Farabi programme etc. is done by the approval of the Department Committee and the decision of the Institute Board. The approval of the of Department Committee and the decision of the Institute Board is also required for the accreditation of prior courses of students who transfer from other universities.

The goal of the programme is to educate individuals who develop the knowledge, method and techniques in their field with original thought and research and who has highest level tools and artistic notion to compete on an international scale.

Graduates can work as independent artists, art directors, art consultant, etc. and also in various positions and as faculty in educational institutions. The growing art market in Turkey and the world provides a wide range of possibilities for Painting graduates through galleries.

D.14. Profile of the Programme

The courses in our programme run for one semester. The first 3 semesters of the programme consist of courses worth 90 ECTS credits, the fourth semester consists of the course “Preperation for Qualification Exam” which is worth 30 ECTS credits. The compulsory course ratio of the programme is %75, elective course ratio is %25.

Apart from the department compulsory classes, the students may take elective courses from the department, or other departments from any university.

The student who has obtained the required credits, and who has a GPA of at least 3,00 can enter qualification exams, as is mentioned in the related article of the Regulations for Graduate Education. Students who have completed the courses, passed the qualification exams and whose art work proposal has been accepted, can prepare their artwork which contains an artistic activity that requires originality and high level creativity under the observance of a committee (Regulations article http://www.gse.hacettepe.edu.tr/mevzuat.html ). Work or works within the scope of the Artwork and examples from the studies showing the making process and progress (paintings, drawings, sketches, photographs, films, etc.) are put together as an examination exhibition. The exhibition lasts for a week. The Artwork as defined in the Hacettepe University Regulations on Graduate Education is an art event such as an exhibition, a project, a design, an application and/or similar events and a written report on this event, and is a substitute for the thesis required for master of arts, or doctorate degrees. An example of the works is kept for the faculty museum.

D.16. Graduation Requirements

The students who meet the requirements of the related article of the Regulations on Graduate Education, obtained the 240 ECTS of the Painting program, completed the compulsory courses and applications and completed the artwork and thesis defense are eligible for graduation.

The students who obtain education in other universities through the Erasmus programme must meet the ECTS credit required for the semester.
