The Informatics Institute at Hacettepe University was formed with the decision of the Council of Ministers on November 8, 2003 and No. 25 283 with four graduate degree programs which are still active. The founder and the first dean of the institute was Prof. Ersin Toreci (Favulty of Engineering, Department of Computer Engineering). The Informatics Institute has now a total of six labs (two labs for general purpose use, a programming lab, a database lab, a computer networks lab and a software lab) with a total of 90 PCS.
Health Informatics Graduate Program offered in The Informatics Institute at Hacettepe University. Healthcare system is one of the most extensive consumer of technology and data. Measurement and Imaging methodologies, analysis, testing and tracking systems used in medical practice grow exponentially, and as a result of these increased information sources, collected health information is getting richer by the time. It's inevitable to use most up-to-date technology to process these information to produce medical knowledge. Health informatics programme aims to grow qualified human resources to manage this. Besides, the programme aims at producing graduates who have theoretical and practical knowledge in regard to effectively analyze, design, develop and manage healthcare information systems.
The official language of the program is Turkish.

Each student in accordance with the admission requirements of Hacettepe University can apply for admission to Health Informatics graduate program. However, the student might be asked to take some or all of the preparatory courses depending on the background of the student.
The preparatory courses are listed below. Note that the credits of these courses will not be reflected to the credits required for the graduation of the student.
Preparatory Courses
The students studying in this program are required:
• to take a minimum of 10 courses with a minimum of 30 local credits and a Term Project. (The Term Project are non-credit and graded on a pass/fail basis.)
• to succeed in all the courses with a letter grade of at least C1
• to have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.50/4.00 with a minimum of 90 ECTS credits.
It is possible to transition from graduate programs in the university or other higher education institutions to the doctoral program of the department. The necessary conditions are stated in the regulations of Hacettepe University Graduate Education and examination. In addition, studying at a higher education institution under graduate or graduate education or who want to improve their skills by completing a specific subject knowledge and practice may attend the classes as a special student with the approval o the board of directors, the course manager.
Health Informatics Masters Program aims to graduate qualified experts on health information technologies who will contribute to spread of proper technological solutions in healthcare sector.
Program also aims to prapare the required media to grow cooperation among different disiplines acting in this field.
The graduates of this program can work in private or governmental bodies those acting in healthcare sector and working with healthcare information. Examples of target organizations include private and governmental hospitals, insurance companies, social security organization, Ministry of health, medical companies producing medical products and knowledge, companies acting in pharmaceutical and biomedical industries.
