D.4. Provisions for Registration

Candidates with the following conditions can apply to this program:

  • Students who graduated from Elementary Mathematics Education and Mathematics Teaching programs affiliated to Mathematics Education Department of Mathematics and Science Education Department of Education Faculties will be accepted to the program.
  • To fulfill the conditions in Hacettepe University Institute of Educational Sciences Graduate Education and Examination Regulation (Item 21).
  • Having a grade point average of 2.40 or more out of 4.
  • To have a score of at least 50 or above from the central foreign language exam or the international foreign language exam recognized by ÖSYM.
  • To have at least 60 points from Academicals Master Education Exam (ALES)
  • To be successful in the entrance exam.

D.5. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students are required to take at least 21 national credits and 120 ECTS courses and successfully complete the thesis in order to meet the graduate requirements. The first two semesters are the course semesters, the last two are the thesis semesters. Students are expected to complete the total credit required to complete the course load of at least 60 ECTS with compulsory and elective courses. Research Methods and Publication Ethics in Mathematics Education, Mathematics Education Seminar and Special Issues are compulsory courses; In accordance with their interests, they will be able to complete the remaining ECTS load with elective courses.

The courses to be taken by students who pass the entrance examination will be determined according to the decision of the scientific committee.

  • Students who graduated from Elementary Mathematics Education and Mathematics Teaching programs affiliated to Mathematics Education Department of Mathematics and Science Education Department of Education Faculties will be accepted to the program.

D.7. Goals and Objectives

The main aim of the mathematics education graduate program is to develop the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills of the students by providing them with in-depth knowledge of basic approaches and research in the field of mathematics education and to make them an expert in the field. In this respect, the program aims to educate academicians who are competent in theory and practice, can research, questioner and instruct education policies, and education experts who can work in the public or private sector in the field of mathematics education.

The compulsory and elective courses included in the program generally aim to provide students with knowledge about basic approaches and current research in mathematics education and to gain perspective and skills that can make scientific researches in the field of mathematics education.

Within the scope of these courses, it is aimed to examine the concepts in mathematics and the relationships between these concepts, to examine how mathematical learning is realized according to different learning theories, to investigate current methods and techniques used in mathematics teaching, and to investigate research in the field of mathematics education. In addition, during the program, students will examine mathematics education research based on quantitative and qualitative approaches, and by using these approaches, they will be able to plan and implement scientific research that will meet their own interests and needs in the field.

It is believed that this program, which is proposed to be opened, will contribute researchers who will contribute to universal science at national and international level, and will contribute to the newly opened and developing universities by educating faculty members by eliminating the deficiencies encountered in teacher education in our country.
